Job Description

Provide library public service and performs technical library work.
Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide outstanding customer service in a professional manner.
  • Provide circulation, basic reference service, and computer support:
    • Register library borrowers and issue library cards.
    • Charge and discharge library materials.
    • Collect library fines and fees.
    • Assist patrons in the location and use of library resources.
    • Assist patrons with basic computer questions.
  • Shelve library materials, shift items, and shelf read for proper order.
  • Copy catalog and process new books and films.
  • Process new books, journals and newspapers.
  • Remove old issues of serials for recycling.
  • Assist with collection development for new library materials.
  • Assist in the processing of new library books and DVD movies.
  • Assist with reviewing and removing library materials as needed.
  • Close the library facility using established procedures.
  • Assist with library projects and programs.
  • Perform other library related duties as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned which contribute to the efficient and effective operation of NCC.
  • Participate in professional development activities provided by NCC.
  • Participate in College events and activities.
  • Maintain regular on-site attendance during normal hours of college operations consistent with expectations and College policies and procedures.
  • Initiate and answer telephone calls and video conference calls.
  • Serve on various committees as assigned.

    • Participate in and support ongoing assessment, planning and evaluation to improve student learning.

    • Maintain stationary position, sitting or standing, for extended periods of time.
    • Operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.
    • Must be able to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, reach, and carry objects.
    • Occasionally lift, move, transport, install, or remove items weighing up to 20 pounds.
    • The ability to communicate information so that others understand.
    • The ability to observe details.

    Minimum Qualifications

    High school diploma or higher. Experience with library computer systems and Microsoft Office products. Dependable and reliable with a good work ethic. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills. Ability to work independently with little supervision, as well as collaboratively. Serve as a team player in support of the library. Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and experience with computer technology.

    Work Schedule: Part-time, 25 hours per week. Available to work days and nights, and maintain a flexible schedule. During the fall and spring semesters the work schedule is 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 am - 1:00 pm on Fridays. The library closes at 6:00 pm during the summer and usually at 5:00 pm when classes are not in session.

    Part-time positions are not benefit eligible.
