Description
Perform a variety of library support activities in the shelving and straightening of materials and books; and to provide assistance to library patrons in the location of materials and the operation of equipment.
Essential Functions
Shelve and maintain library materials in proper order; maintain neat and orderly appearance of the library.
Evaluate and maintain orderliness of shelved materials; pull and route materials in need of mending, binding, repairing or discarding. Clean and maintain audio collections as required.
Receive and process library serials; record missing issues; display serials in proper area.
Perform routine and repetitive general clerical work as assigned such as directing phone calls to appropriate departments, checking in library materials, and assisting patrons at the drive-up window.
Assist in preparing displays and promotional materials.
Provide general assistance to library patrons in locating library materials; retrieve information from storage as requested; assist patrons with the operation of microfilm, microfiche, copier and other equipment.
Display honest, trustworthy, and ethical behavior when dealing with internal and external customers.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Regular attendance that is punctual and dependable is required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge of:
Basic library practices and procedures including alpha and numerical sequencing.
Modern office methods, procedures and equipment.
Materials and services available in public libraries.
Ability to:
Learn standard library practices and procedures.
Work various shifts which include evenings and weekends.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Interact with library patrons with diplomacy and tact.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Experience:
No experience is required. Must be at least 16 years of age.
Training:
Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.

Approximately 13 hours per week including day, evening and weekend hours.
