Departmental Overview
The Library Information Technology (Library IT) Department, a department within the UC Berkeley Library, is charged with the design, development, management, and maintenance of flexible and reliable technology environments for the Library.
Position Summary
The DevOps Analyst will play a key role in the design, implementation, and maintenance of the Library's Windows-based systems. This role will involve analyzing existing systems and proposing new ones, identifying areas for improvement in reliability, security, performance, and architecture, and developing and executing plans to implement these improvements.
Responsibilities
Print Server Administration.
Analyzes, plans, proposes, and implements cross-network migration and upgrade of shared printing services (Pharos).
Works with others on the DevOps team to troubleshoot day-to-day issues.
Develops automated and manual testing procedures in collaboration with DevOps and ESS (Endpoint Solutions and Services) staff.
Windows DevOps Engineering.
Develops comprehensive automated administrative, patching, and testing procedures for Windows servers.
Develops custom tooling to fill gaps and improve observability, monitoring, security.
Analyzes novel and complex Windows services and develops plans for improving their reliability, quality, availability, and security.
Troubleshoots and resolves complex issues, escalating as necessary.
Project Management and Analysis.
Provides project management for a variety of DevOps projects developing timelines, task lists, and managing communication within Library IT and beyond.
Oversees the implementation, deployment, and integration of solutions, ensuring successful delivery and sustainability of solutions.
Proposes new service offerings or enhancements to existing systems to align with best practices.
Research and Documentation.
Documents technical processes and procedures for internal knowledge sharing and team continuity.
Writes and presents technical training materials with and for use by other IT staff.
Writes instructions and provides training on relevant technologies for Library staff.
Actively researches and implements the latest technologies and tools to improve workflows and outcomes.
Required Qualifications
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Experience with Windows Server administration and configuration.
Experience automating administration and configuration tasks.
Experience with version control systems.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and execute technical projects.
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with git version control systems.
Familiarity with CI/CD tools.
Experience with a systems programming language.
Experience working with a ticketing or project management tool.
Experience in a higher education and/or library environment.
Salary & Benefits
This is a 100% full-time (40 hrs a week) exempt career position, which is paid monthly and eligible for UC Benefits.
