Position: Media Clerk
Location: Tremont Elementary School
Pay Rate: $19.38-$21.51 p/hour
Time Schedule: 10 months
Hours: 5 hours per day
Reports to: Media Specialist & Principal
Employment Status: Part-time/Hourly
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Probationary Period: 120 Days

Description:

Assist the media specialist with office/clerical duties, locating, circulating and shelving library materials, supporting technology advancements within the department while supporting students, staff and community members in the library media center.

NOTE: The below lists are not ranked in order of importance

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • One to two years related experience
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Supervisor and/or Board of Education may find appropriate

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of word processing and email computer applications
  • Ability to work effectively with others
  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to learn, then share with students, teachers, and staff, the online catalog as well as electronic databases and web based programs as needed
  • Effective active listening skills
  • Organizational, time management and problem solving skills
  • Ability to generate correspondence and work independently
  • Multitasking skills
  • Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, equipment, and programs
  • Ability to prioritize and complete job assignments

Essential Functions:
  • Help maintain library collections including processing, shelving, mending and repairing books and other library materials
  • Help maintain library records, reports and patron data
  • Help supervise students, assistants and volunteers in the media center
  • Help maintain a supportive learning environment in media center through positive communication
  • Provides assistance and support to students
  • Assist media specialist in maintaining neat, clean, organized and orderly work and collaborative student areas
  • Input data and runs selected reports form appropriate software
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patron records
  • Collects and accounts for money from others as payments for various fees due, credits for lost and damaged material, book fairs and author visits
  • Assist students in the use of the electronic on-line catalog
  • Prepare requisitions for library materials and supplies under the direction of the school media specialist
  • Ensure safety of students
  • Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy
  • Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
  • Circulate print and non-print materials
  • Such alternatives to the above essential functions as the Supervisor and/or Board of Education may find appropriate

  • Alerts media specialist to unique situations and needs of individual students
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal, Library/Media Specialists or designee

  • Interruption of duties by students, visitors, staff and/or telephone
  • Occasional requirement to lift and carry various items up to a maximum of 25 pounds, e.g., paper boxes, deliveries of supplies and equipment
  • Frequently move and position self as necessary to access and operate equipment
  • Frequently move around workspace and travel throughout school building
