Position Summary:

The Communications & Multimedia Manager will play a key role in advancing CCA’s mission by developing and executing dynamic digital content and supporting strategic communications and storytelling. This position requires a creative and proactive individual with strong technical skills and a deep commitment to ending mass incarceration and criminalization.

The Communications & Multimedia Manager will focus on digital content creation, social media management, collaborative print design and supporting the Director of Communications with media relations and strategic storytelling.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, able to multitask, skilled in multimedia production and social media management, and comfortable working collaboratively across diverse teams. We seek candidates who are strategic, passionate, and collaborative. This is a full-time, New York State-based position. Candidates must be available to travel across New York State and work some evenings and weekends.

Direct Supervisor: Director of Communications

Duties and Responsibilities:

Collaborative Digital Content Creation & Print Design (50%):

  • Work with the Communications and Foundation Relations Manager and Director of Communications to collaborate with staff across programs and advocacy work to design and produce social media graphics, short videos, presentations and print assets such as brochures, reports, and marketing materials.
  • Ensure all materials align with CCA’s mission, messaging and brand or those of their corresponding campaigns.
  • Facilitate two weekly Design Liaison office hours to train and support program staff in creating digital content on Canva.
  • Assist the Director of Communications with digital content creation and development of print assets across our advocacy campaigns, including rapid-response development during the legislative session (December-June).
  • With the Director of Communications, develop multimedia content using tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and Adobe Premiere, with a focus on creating engaging visuals and videos that amplify CCA’s mission and campaigns.
  • Work with the Director of Communications and Director of Administration to place orders for print materials, manage distribution and vendor relationships.

Social Media Management & Digital Communications Engagement (30%):

  • Work with the Communications and Foundation Relations Manager on daily management and regular updating of CCA’s social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and soon, TikTok) by creating, posting, and engaging with content, ensuring consistent voice and tone across all channels.
  • Expand and enhance CCA’s digital presence by developing and implementing social media strategies that increase engagement and followers across all platforms.
  • Align social media strategies with CCA’s program and advocacy goals and ensure cohesive messaging across platforms using our Best Practices Language Guide.
  • Create and manage event pages on EveryAction and write/manage e-blasts for program and campaign events and updates.
  • Track and analyze digital metrics, providing quarterly reports to measure the success of social media and e-blast campaigns and inform future strategies.

Media Relations (10%):

  • Support the Director of Communications in drafting press releases, statements, and op-eds. Assist with press pitches, contacting journalists, and tracking press coverage and contacts.
  • Support the planning of press events, including press conferences and rallies, working to ensure strategic press coverage.

Strategic Storytelling (10%):

  • Transcribe and annotate interviews to support strategic storytelling and impact narratives, focusing on civil and human rights, criminal legal reform, and community-based services, programs and initiatives
  • Work with the Director of Communications and program leadership to identify, nurture and train participants and members for public speaking or story-sharing opportunities
  • Work with Director of Communications to develop best practice guides on narrative change, storytelling and other communications policies

Qualifications:

Experience & Commitment:

  • 3+ years of experience in communications, media relations, graphic design, and/or multi-media digital content creation, preferably within a grassroots or non-profit context.
  • Demonstrated strong commitment to criminal legal reform, racial, economic, and gender justice, with a deep focus on supporting directly impacted leadership, advocating for safety and justice, and driving transformational change.
  • Preference for candidates with lived experience related to incarceration, incarceration of a loved one, criminalization, community disinvestment or victim/survivor justice.
  • A serious commitment to dismantling systems of mass criminalization and to elevating the voices and leadership of directly impacted people.
  • Experience working collaboratively and equitably with people with very different lived experiences, belief systems, fluencies and growing edges.

Essential Skills:

  • Excellent writing skills, with experience crafting messaging and developing press materials about complex policy issues for different audiences.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and work effectively in high-intensity, rapid response environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and G Suite
  • Expertise social media management skills in Instagram, X/Twitter, Facebook, and TikTok.
  • Advanced graphic design skills in Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Lightroom)
  • Proficient photo, video and audio production and editing skills, including ability to shoot photos and videos on DSLR, I-phones and tablets and edit in Adobe Premiere and Lightroom
  • Proficient web management skills in WebFlow and WordPres
  • Proficient copy-editing and transcription skills
  • A sense of humor, grace, patience and diplomacy, even in difficult moments

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with or willing to learn EveryAction, SPOKE and P2A/Quorum
  • HTML, CSS and/or JavaScript
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.

Digital Strategy & SEO:

  • Strong understanding of digital strategy and SEO best practices, with experience managing and updating website content via WebFlow

Storytelling & Media Relations

  • Proven ability to create compelling narratives and multimedia content.
  • Experience drafting press materials and supporting media engagement

Project Management:

  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills,
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams.
