WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Provide direct service to hospice patients and their families, in homes, inpatient units and alternative homes.
- Conduct assessments and provide interventions that meet individual needs.
- Consult with referring team and other Expressive Therapists about patient referrals to assess needs and to prioritize intervention.
- Participate in transdisciplinary team conferences as appropriate and available.
- Educate hospice staff about the role of the Music Therapist and the use of music therapy interventions with hospice patients/families.
- Consult with team members on the use of music to meet individual patient/family needs.
- Maintain and promptly complete all required records and reports.
- Provide bereavement follow-up to family members when determined appropriate by team members involved.
- Assist with facilitating support groups upon request.
- Assess music therapy equipment including inventory, maintenance and use of equipment.
- Conduct in-service programs and assist with outside public relations activities as requested.
- Assist with orientation and training of students, Hospice of the Western Reserve volunteers and new employees.
- Assist with memorial service upon request.
- Be available for emergency situations.
- Be flexible in meeting patient/family needs that require working evenings and weekends.
- Development and supervision of internship program and interns in Music Therapy.
- Participate in agency committees as needed or assigned.
- Participate in the On-call rotation for counseling services for weekends and holidays.
SUCCESS CAPABILITIES:
- Music Therapist - Board Certified.
- At least 1 year experience in the field of music therapy or a music therapy internship in hospice care or extensive experience working with terminally ill persons.
- Soothing and pleasant singing voice and proficient on an accompanying instrument.
- Ability to utilize music therapy techniques to assist the patient and family with the following: Visual/motor stimulation, loss of speech or language barrier, pain, discomfort, anxiety, restlessness, respiratory difficulties, insomnia, Difficulty expressing feelings or interacting with others, depression, emotional outlet, Lack of support system, isolation, anticipatory grief, multiple losses, Need for meaningful activity, Need for spiritual expression
- Knowledge of the developmental stages of children.
- Awareness of children's music literature and age-appropriate music activities that correspond to developmental stages.
- Understanding of the differences between adult & children's reaction to grief & life-threatening situations.
- Ability to create a safe environment and mode of expression through music.
- Experience with facilitating groups preferred.
- Must be able to physically carry, handle and transport 60 lbs. music instruments and related equipment.
- Must be able to drive & have a valid drivers license, car available, & insurance coverage as required in Ohio.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
