Job Description Summary
MUSIC - Associate/Full Professor of Music with specialization in Music Education: Strings or General /Elementary & Department Chairperson: Oakland University's School of Music, Theatre and Dance invites applicants for the position of Associate or Full Professor Music with a focus in Music Education (specializations considered in String Pedagogy or General/Elementary Education) and Department Chair of Music, beginning August 15, 2025.
Responsibilities: serve as Music Department Chair (1-2 terms of three years desired with 1+1 teaching load during term(s) as Department Chair). Teaching assignments will be based on candidate's qualifications/desires and could include any of the following: music education methods, elementary general music methods, educational psychology, conduct OU Chamber Orchestra, string pedagogy, student teacher supervisor (strings or elementary music education), coordinator of strings program, or chamber music coordinator. Teaching load when not serving as chair would be 3+2.
Position requirements: terminal degree in music education, conducting, or string performance; university-level experience as a teacher/performer and accomplishments commensurate with tenure and rank of Associate or Full Professor. Preferred qualities: administrative experience, demonstrated success in recruiting and supporting a diverse student population.
The successful candidate will: 1) be expected to pursue growth and success in their research/performance career while maintaining a strong commitment to teaching, recruiting/retention, and service to the field and 2) provide collaborative leadership within a mature and cohesive faculty through the promotion of existing initiatives.
