Description

Chartered in 1956 with the introduction of the Bachelor's of Music Therapy, the Music Therapy program at Loyola University New Orleans is one of the oldest in the nation. Music therapy at Loyola is a vibrant, active community of traditional and online students, faculty scholar/practitioners, and community partners.

We are currently seeking an experienced leader, educator, researcher, and clinician who displays innovative approaches to pedagogy and practice in the field of music therapy, to serve as the coordinator of the music therapy division within the School of Music & Theatre Professions. The successful candidate will oversee the administrative and academic needs of the music therapy program. The appointment will be Assistant/Associate/Full Professor (10-month full-time appointment, tenure track), dependent upon incoming qualifications. beginning Fall 2025.

Examples of Duties

Primary responsibilities are divided between administration/ leadership and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in music therapy.

Administrative duties will include:
  • Management of departmental staffing, records, and budgets
  • Curriculum development and course carousel management
  • Student recruitment and retention
  • Representation of the university in the New Orleans, statewide, and national music therapy communitiesWorking closely with national accrediting bodies to adhere to academic/musical/therapeutic standards, college and university committee service
Teaching Duties:

  • Teaching selected undergraduate and graduate courses
  • Masters thesis and scholarly project advising

Additional Duties:
  • Recruitment and mentorship of full-time, part-time faculty
  • Academic advising
  • Oversight of work study students


Typical Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
We value collaboration, collegiality, and inclusiveness. Due to the nature of some supervisory activities, successful applicants must be able to comply with the University's policies regarding working with minors. The qualified candidate will also demonstrably possess:
  • Masters in Music Therapy or the equivalent required (PhD in Music Therapy preferred)
  • Music Therapist-Board Certified Required
  • Portfolio of state, regional, and/or national professional activities and affiliations
  • Published research in peer-reviewed journals
  • Three years university-level teaching and five years of clinical experience required
  • Preference will be given to candidates with clinical experience with diverse populations
