JOB DESCRIPTION: MUSIC TEACHER
DEFINITION:
Provides a well-rounded music program in the areas of vocal, instrumental and classroom music instruction.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This position requires subject matter expertise in instrumental and choral music instruction. Responsible and directly related experience is required to perform the essential functions of the assignment.
This is a sedentary position and performs light work involving sitting a portion of the time, but does require walking and standing for extended periods. This position requires accurate perceiving of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, and handling and working with instructional materials and objects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
•Provides classroom, instrumental and vocal music instruction to students within the district.
•Holds rehearsals of groups and prepares special programs.
•Arranges opportunities for students to perform and to attend live performances of others.
•Maintains appropriate records and inventory control of all music supplies and equipment.
•Acts as a music education resource to classroom teacher.
•Meets with appropriate community and parent support groups.
•Maintains a motivating and attractive room environment.
•Maintains regular ongoing communication and program articulation within the district.
•Maintains regular ongoing communication and dialogue with other school district professional music staff in the area.
•Monitors the purchase and repair of instrumental music equipment and makes minor repairs as needed.
•Communicates with parents of participating students on a regular basis regarding pupil progress.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
•Methods and strategies concerning the development and maintenance of an effective music program.
•Performing arts organizations within the local community.
•Modern trends pertaining to music instructional processes and activities.
Ability to:
•Instruct all band instruments and direct choral groups
•Direct and conduct musical play productions
•Play piano, guitar and/or auto harp
•Establish and maintain effective organization, community and public relationships.
•Communicate effectively in oral and written form.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and skill.
Experience:
•Previous experience as a Music Teacher
•Experience as a regular classroom teacher
Education:
•Possession of a baccalaureate or higher degree in music
•Possession of a valid California Credential authorizing service as an elementary and secondary music teacher.

Band and Choir
Shift Schedule: TBD
SALARY - Shall be prorated based on 184 workdays
$21,458. - $44,686
Master's Degree Stipend - $1,500.00 (prorated)
Doctorate's Degree Stipend - $1,500.00 (prorated)
***Special qualifications including knowledge, skills & abilities:
- Experience in teaching: Music, Guitar, Choir & developing special programs/performances;
- Experience with team teaching and PLC's desired;
- Willingness to coach, or assist in other extra curricular activities and sports.
**Current Gateway USD certificated employees must submit a request for consideration to the Director of Human Resources on or before the deadline.
