OPPORTUNITY SUMMARY

The Industry Marketing and PR coordinator will aid the team in developing communications, including conference marketing e-mails, event communications, media highlights reports, and more. The person in this position will gain an understanding of our industry leadership businesses and how they connect back to the college as a whole. The individual will assist in developing conference marketing and public relations plans and learn how to merchandise results. They will also acquire basic public relations skills that can translate to all areas of their future career, from presentation skills to writing feature copy to working with journalists.

SHIFTS

  • Between Monday to Friday: 8:30 to 5pm.
ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Gain an understanding of our industry leadership business units and how they connect back to the college
  • Develop proficiency in creating and executing marketing and PR plans
  • Acquire basic public relations skills that can translate to all areas of your future career, from presentation to writing feature copy to working with journalists
  • Broaden industry knowledge and learn how to merchandise public relations results
  • Draft compelling e-mails to drive conference attendance
  • Assist in developing conference marketing plans
  • Create blog posts and content to drive engagement LinkedIn, our industry-facing social media channel
  • Collaborate with team members in brainstorming news story angles and drafting pitches
  • Gain familiarity with various industry publications and journalists and what they cover
  • Learn how to develop key messages and talking points for interviews and participate in media training
  • Compile weekly media highlights reports
  • Recommend ways to drive greater student engagement and participation in the college's industry leadership programs
  • Any and all other duties as assigned
PREREQUISITES
  • Successful completion of College Writing and Professionalism and Life Skills
  • Strong computer experience in MS Office suite products, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to be adaptable, dependable and handle multiple priorities simultaneously
PREFERRED PRIOR EXPERIENCES
  • Strong writing skills
  • Interest in sustainability and food systems change, food journalism, and public relations
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Strong administrative abilities
  • Work requires continual attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines

Successful applicant must be able to perform all related functions of the assignment which may include working nights and weekends, ability to bend reach and stand for long periods of time, lifting and carrying of items up to fifty (50) pounds, and the ability to withstand high ambient temperatures.
