OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY

The Public Relations Specialist at the Office of Duke-NUS Affairs is a new position that will be responsible for planning and coordinating a comprehensive and diversified public relations program to promote the partnership between Duke University School of Medicine and Duke-NUS Medical School in Singapore. This position reports to the Director of the Office of Duke-NUS Affairs and will work closely with leadership, faculty and staff from Duke and Duke-NUS to ensure appropriate and integrated communications tactics are developed and deployed to advance the mission and goals of the partnership. These goals include increasing awareness of the partnership, encouraging faculty, clinician and researcher collaboration across institutions, advancing defined strategic objectives, enhancing internal communications, supporting university-wide communications initiatives focused on the outcomes of collaborations between the institutions, and more.

Key audiences include faculty, clinicians, researchers and staff (at Duke and Duke-NUS) and other stakeholders in the US and Singapore. This position will collaborate with communicators across Duke, including those in School of Medicine, Duke Health, University Communications, Alumni Engagement and Development, as well as colleagues at Duke-NUS and SingHealth. The ideal candidate is proactive, creative, culturally competent, and eager to take initiative and strategize to improve the visibility of the Duke/Duke-NUS partnership.

WORK PERFORMED

Strategic Communications (40%)

  • Build and maintain relationships with leaders and stakeholders across the Duke/Duke-NUS partnership to ascertain primary goals/objectives and key audiences.
  • Identify and implement effective, integrated, and innovative communication and engagement strategies that will assist Duke-NUS Affairs in achieving identified communications goals and objectives.
  • Create and maintain strategic communications plans and editorial calendars that encompass those elements as well as recommended timing and the means to measure success.
  • Create and oversee a Duke-NUS Affairs social media strategy that supports engagement with Duke-NUS Affairs programs and partnership objectives.
  • Advise/consult with unit-based communications colleagues on the content and channels that would best resonate with their audiences and oversee the creation of those deliverables - including editing and project management, as needed.
  • Oversee and implement Duke-NUS Affairs website content strategy and design.
  • Develop communications initiatives to raise awareness of the partnership and collaborative outcomes of the Duke/Duke-NUS partnership, including regular presentations to Duke departments and schools.
  • Stay abreast of current and emerging web and mobile technologies, trends, and best practices to inform the continual improvement of the Duke-NUS Affairs' digital communications activities.


Content Development and Management (20%)

  • Write and produce content suitable for a range of internal and external communication channels including websites, social media, digital screens, print materials, electronic newsletters, etc.
  • Craft compelling key messages for Duke-NUS Affairs and its programs.
  • Ensure Duke-NUS Affairs website content remains fresh, accurate, and compelling via homepage features, page headers, news stories, program marketing, infographics, slideshows, video/audio embeds and more.
  • Make sure all pages are visually attractive and effectively use the tools available on the website.
  • Manage external vendors and internal partners in the development of rich media and other complex digital content; liaise with Duke web services on website issues.
  • Contribute to SOM communications campaigns and other university-level communications initiatives.
  • Serve as the liaison between Duke University and Health communications offices and Duke-NUS Marketing and Communications department to develop and coordinate strategic communications initiatives.


Social Media Management (20%)

  • Develop daily/weekly content schedule/editorial calendar for what content gets shared on what platform, when and by whom.
  • Develop compelling social media posts to maximize the impact of created content and drive engagement.
  • Monitor social media audience - amplify from partners and re-share strategically.
  • Recruit stakeholder content creators and manage Instagram Stories and Instagram Takeovers.
  • Serve as Duke-NUS Affairs' liaison to Duke, Duke-NUS and Sing Health social media teams.


Promotional Programs & Events (20%)

  • Develop and plan promotional events to help publicize the Duke/Duke-NUS partnership to the Duke community.
  • Collaborate with the Duke-NUS Affairs Travel Team to plan events for incoming visitors to engage with the Duke community.
  • Be aware of events at Duke and Duke-NUS and facilitate participation where applicable.


SKILLS

  • General interest in supporting the academic and research functions of the university.
  • Strong writing and editing skills for digital and print.
  • Experience with content management systems and social media tools.
  • Ability to produce and edit high-quality multimedia content.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, manage time and multiple projects, and adhere to deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational, people, communication, and program management skills required.
  • Strategic thinking and willingness to learn new skills and methods.
  • Previous experience working in academia, supporting faculty and students.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Work requires the ability to perform creative writing and related activities such as conducting interviews and research, and copy editing normally acquired through attainment of a bachelor's degree in Journalism, English or a related discipline.

Experience

Work requires one year of directly related writing experience.
