The PR Manager creates content using facts, figures, and research to expand BBB’s brand presence and relevance throughout the organization’s local communities while conforming with BBB’s brand guidelines and identifying relevant topics of interest.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate all ongoing media/PR inquiries and responsibilities with multiple media.
- Create and distribute articles, columns, talking points, and press releases relevant to current marketplace issues, investigations, and trends.
- Gather information and prepare updates on monthly media mentions, ROIs speaking engagements, open rates, director activities, and other statistical data in our service area and suggest improvements.
- Monitor BBB Media placements and mentions and proactively inform leadership of noteworthy or problematic trends.
- Review and/or create copy for any communications designed to interface with the public, including, but not limited to, job posting descriptions, speeches, social media posts, consumer newsletters, presentations, investigative press releases, and other external-facing tactics.
- Oversee PR Intern program.
- Conduct data analysis of BBB Scam Tracker reports, BBB complaints, or BBB reviews to identify newsworthy metrics for inclusion in outward-facing communications.
- Work within BBB Brand and AP style guidelines in the creation of related materials, including email templates for staff and a communication guide that provides consistent messaging across the organization.
- Owns and updates communication’s editorial calendar.
- Develop, distribute, and oversee departmental contributions for BBB’s internal newsletters and other internal communications, as needed.
- Work with BBB’s creative team to develop media kits to enhance media outreach efforts through quarterly campaigns.
- Organize and maintain the communication department’s internal file management system.
- Organize and maintain BBB’s project management system for activities that fall within the communications department's duties.
- Develop, maintain, and update BBB procedural documents for the communications department.
- Track and update reports detailing the progress of operational goals across the communications department.
- Update or develop media landscapes used to define audience demographics and psychographics to assist in creating content that will resonate with a target audience.
- Assist team in meeting and exceeding established yearly departmental goals.
- Serve as a BBB representative at community events as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor and/or the executive team.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Excellent spelling, grammar, and written communication skills, with high attention to detail in composing, typing, and proofreading materials.
- Proficient in AP style.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally (in person and via phone) and in writing.
- High interpersonal skills and the ability to handle sensitive information/documentation with confidentiality.
- Knowledge of office administrative procedures and ability to operate most standard office equipment.
- Highly proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
- Proficient in utilizing media monitoring systems (Cision, TVEyes).
- Knowledgeable of best practices and demonstrated capability to create data visualizations and other creative assets using PowerBI and Adobe suite products.
- Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or a related field, plus a minimum of two years of experience in a fast-paced office with a proven track record of delivering relevant external communications.
- Experience developing and distributing news releases.
- Experience working in a newsroom setting.
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience
- No nights or weekends!
