Job Description
The Director of Engineering manages the electronic and computer assets of the three-station network toward a goal of uninterrupted, high-quality broadcasting. The Radio Kansas system includes three full power FM stations with associated towers, including the tallest FM tower in the state of Kansas at 1,300 feet. These towers are up to 100 miles from Hutchinson, where studios and offices are located.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Functions:
- Overall supervision of all Radio Kansas broadcast and operational systems, including three full power FM transmitters, computer playback system and studios.
- Supervise the design and implementation of all computer and other electronic systems.
- Maintain a climate of quality and excellence in operations.
- Assure compliance of Radio Kansas to all required federal and other regulations.
- Comply with HutchCC policies, procedures, and practices.
- Arrive on time for work, attend work regularly, and successfully complete the responsibilities of the position.
Secondary:
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Radio Kansas General Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in both transmitter and studio electronics in radio
- College degree required.
- Certification in broadcast engineering from FCC preferred.
- Ability to work well with a diverse staff.
- Physical requirements: Ability to lift 70 lbs.; day and night driving to transmitters 100 miles distant; and rare overnight hours. Excellent verbal, written and listening skills; exhibit manual dexterity to enter data into a computer, and to operate additional office equipment; see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone; use appropriate judgment and to apply tact and courtesy in difficult situations; ability to understand words and respond effectively and appropriately; attentive to detail, accurately follow written and verbal instructions, work independently; Moderate to heavy, Outdoor/indoor work environment.
- Vehicles provided; valid Kansas drivers license and clean driving record required.

SALARY and STATUS:
The salary is commensurate with qualifications as determined by the HutchCC administration. This full-time administrative staff position is 12 months annual, benefit eligible, at-will, and exempt.
