Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; minimum of four years of experience in communication-electronics career field or comparable certification or training working with mobile two-way radio communications systems; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must be able to distinguish between various colored wires; ability to understand and operate hand/power tools and electronic test & measurement equipment (wattmeter, service monitor, multimeter, etc.), and have basic computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, internet searching, etc.). FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL Elements 1 & 3), system troubleshooting, project planning, and team leadership skills desired. Ability to perform physically demanding work including, but not limited to standing for prolonged periods, squatting, stooping, bending, twisting, stretching, crawling, reaching overhead, climbing ladders, working from step ladders, and working in awkward positions without choice or variety. Current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required. This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check.
Duties

Provides installation, service, maintenance, and removal of two-way radio communications systems (mobile and infrastructure related). Provide technical support to Installations Bay team as well as Systems Analysts in the troubleshooting, repair and maintenance support of overall county public safety communications infrastructure (currently 800 MHz trunking system, utilities monitoring systems, tower maintenance, etc.). Duties also include on-call duties on a schedule as well as overseeing special radio communications installations projects (at fire stations, schools, etc.). Perform other work as required.

Shift

Monday - Friday; 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; on-call shift approximately one week per month.
