About our Reporter Role

As a Reporter at audiochuck, you will play a crucial role in uncovering stories that resonate with our audience. Your work will involve gathering accurate facts, conducting thorough research, and conducting interviews to provide the foundation for compelling storytelling. While primarily investigative, this position requires occasional writing to complete scripts or projects when necessary.

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct research and interviews via phone, video calls, and public records.
  • Initiate FOIA requests and navigate public data gathering processes (with guidance, as needed).
  • Collaborate with writers or other reporters, handing off findings and supporting storytelling efforts.
  • Occasionally craft your own scripts or written pieces for various projects.
  • Develop your journalism skills under close supervision and mentorship on complex projects.
  • Cover local or regional stories with a keen eye for accuracy and narrative depth.
  • Stay up-to-date on journalism practices, techniques, and true crime or similar genres.

What You Will Bring to the Table

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Basic understanding of journalism practices and techniques.
  • A proactive approach to soliciting information and conducting research.
  • Strong fact-gathering and storytelling skills with a commitment to accuracy.
  • Familiarity with FOIA requests and public data research, with a willingness to learn.
  • Previous experience covering local or regional stories; interest in true crime is a plus.
  • A collaborative mindset and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
