Job Summary/Description:
KCTV is looking for an experienced, aggressive, and innovative Investigative Reporter to join our local, award-winning team. The Investigative Reporter will work closely with the special projects team to produce powerful, impactful stories. The ideal candidate should have a track record of digging up stories that make a difference and rely heavily on public record requests and large datasets. We're looking for someone who can assist and enhance our enterprise work. Our investigative reporter will have the time and tools to do stories that expose the truth and get results.
Duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Serve the community through meaningful, compelling investigative journalism that impacts real people in their everyday lives and provides solutions to help people and communities overcome challenges.
- Has a demonstrated track record of breaking investigative stories that have had an impact, and made a real difference in their communities.
- Create high-quality investigative content for broadcast, digital, streaming, and social media platforms.
- Must manage multiple projects simultaneously; expect to publish new content 1-2x per week and turn daily investigative sidebars.
- Provide investigative support as needed for daily news content.
- Use creative storytelling techniques to make complex issues digestible for the audience.
- Collaborate with the investigative/special projects team and news managers to build and evolve the station's investigative brand.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years experience as an investigative reporter.
- Extensive experience delivering engaging live content in the studio and the field.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proven track record of generating meaningful investigative stories and following through to achieve tangible results.
- Proficiency with investigative tools including, but not limited to, public records, data analysis, and source development.
- Excellent time management, communication, and writing skills.
