Job Description
The First Judicial District is hiring an Official Stenographic Court Reporter for the Honorable Christopher Bates. Judge Bates is chambered in the Dakota County Western Service Center in Apple Valley, MN. In-person or hybrid options will be considered for this position. Applications will be reviewed beginning December 2, 2024 and thereafter as received.
Court Reporters have the opportunity to capture and preserve the court record while serving the public in a professional capacity through the administration of justice. The First Judicial District operates on a daily calendar system, providing employees the opportunity to be assigned throughout the district and to report many different types of court proceedings. The First District consists of seven southern metro counties including Carver, Dakota, Goodhue, Le Sueur, McLeod, Scott, and Sibley.

Example of Duties:
- The following are examples of major job duties expected for this position:
- Capture and preserve a verbatim record of court proceedings in real time.
- Read back testimony upon request.
- Prepare transcripts and court orders in accordance with Rules of Court, State Statutes, legal rules and policies.
- Maintain accurate and complete files and records.
- Maintain awareness of rules, statues, and policy changes.
- Serve as a confidential assistant to the appointing authority or Judge.
- Perform other court related and confidential duties as directed by the appointing authority or Judge.
- Travel throughout the District.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from high school or equivalent; and
- Graduation from a court reporting school approved by the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) within the past two years; or
- Received a Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) designation from the NCRA or an equivalent certification from another state or territory of the United States or another professional court reporter association; or
- Have been practicing proficiently as a professional stenographic reporter for the past two years and within one month of hire, demonstrate accuracy alongside a stenographic court reporter; or
- Obtain RPR designation from the NCRA within two years of hire. Pending receipt of the RPR designation, must within one month of hire, demonstrate accuracy alongside a stenographic court reporter.
- Ability to provide RealTime of all court proceedings for the judge is preferred.
