JOB SUMMARY
As a senior member of the leadership team, the VP Luxury plays a key role in achieving company and department objectives around growth, design excellence, process excellence and associate engagement. This individual will lead a team of architects, designers, and project managers in the collaborative process with owners, consultants and internal/external partners for the successful design and delivery of Marriott luxury brand hotel projects throughout the US and Canada.
In addition, the VP will lead or participate in cross-studio and cross-departmental initiatives. The VP will also serve as an ambassador for Global Design in the broader hospitality design community, participating in industry events and forums.
This individual will excel in team leadership, communication, and cultivating professional relationships; they will embrace continual improvement and have balanced expertise across the innovative, technical, and business sides of design.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education and Experience
Required
- Baccalaureate degree in relevant field (architecture, interior design, construction/project management).
- Minimum 15 years of experience in architecture, interior design, project management and/or construction management.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in a management role; demonstrated success leading teams and developing others.
- In-depth understanding of hospitality business model, management/franchise contracts, and technical services agreements.
- In-depth knowledge of lodging development, design and construction and ability to take a leadership role in the development of site planning, due diligence, design execution and construction management.
Preferred
- Master of Architecture or advanced degree in relevant field preferred.
- Licensure as Architect or Interior Designer preferred.
CORE WORK ACTIVITIES
- Provides leadership to team responsible for the oversight and execution of architecture and interior design projects, delivering appropriate, innovative design solutions that meet project budgets, schedules, and brand standards.
- Cultivates strong, trusting relationships with owners, consultants, and internal/external partners.
- Establishes processes and protocols for effective project delivery, providing value to internal and external partners and protecting brand integrity at all project stages.
- Reviews contracts, schedules and project plans for design, construction, or other implications to Marriott business interests; manages responses and resolves issues.
- Identifies risks and implements action plans to mitigate exposure and protect business interests and relationships.
- Provides consistent, accurate project progress reports and ensures data integrity across the team.
- Critically assesses studio organization and performance and ensures effective structures, processes, jobs, and tools are in place for associates to work effectively; partners with leadership and HR to implement strategic changes.
- Manages studio resources within established project and department budgets, monitoring workloads and prioritizing highest impact work to maintain balance. Provides strategic budget and resource planning input.
- Sets goals and expectations for team, holds staff accountable, assesses performance, and provides feedback.
- Mentors team members and identifies professional development opportunities.
- Leads and/or contributes to cross-studio and cross-departmental initiatives.
- Represents Global Design US & Canada at various internal and external events.
- Champions excellence in ethics, social responsibility, cross-cultural effectiveness, and associate engagement.
- Embraces mindset of continuous learning and improvement, seeking and adopting new processes, technology, and solutions for highest impact.
The salary range for this position is $177,075 to $300,500 annually.
