Job Description:


The NBCUniversal team is looking for a User Experience Researcher to drive the tactical and strategic research projects that support the Fandango Media product roadmap — helping our Design and Product teams to define new paths forward for the product portfolio, solve for immediate business needs, and achieve organizational objectives. This person will collaborate with cross functional partners across the Product, Design, Data Science, and Analytics teams, and will plan and execute the research efforts that help our teams validate and evaluate product features as well as the foundational research that helps define the future of our products. Reporting to the Director of User Research and Consumer Insights, the User Experience Researcher will represent the voices of our users and influence our senior design and product stakeholders across the organization to build user-centric solutions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Cognitive Science, Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction, Anthropology, Statistics, or a related field
  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative research study design and analysis
  • Experience conducting tactical and foundational research employing qualitative and quantitative research methods — including surveys, moderated and unmoderated usability studies, in depth interviews, diary studies, digital ethnographies, card sorting exercises, focus groups, etc.
  • An understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during the product development lifecycle
  • Familiarity with behavioral user analytics and how to incorporate them into UX research efforts
  • 3 years of experience executing applied research
  • 3 years of experience conducting research on products
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good data storytelling and presentation skills
  • Experience working with product leaders to drive strategic product value


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Sociology, Cognitive Science, Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction, Anthropology, Statistics, or a related field
  • Expertise in usability study design and execution
  • Experience working with executive leadership (i.e., Senior Director level and above)
  • Experience managing and delivering projects within a large organization

Fandango’s UX research team helps to illuminate new paths forward, defining the future of the product portfolio as well as the future of its product design.


You will work with a multi-disciplinary team made up of Researchers, Designers, Product Managers, Analysts, and Engineers — all of whom care deeply about our products and building the future of entertainment. You will join this team as a thoughtful mixed methods researcher and will be responsible for designing and executing the research that answers the immediate, medium-, and long-term needs of our Product and Design partners.


You will advocate for our users, our research, and the insights you derive from both the qualitative and quantitative studies you field and analyze. The methods you are called on to employ may include, but are not limited to: in-depth interviews, diary studies, surveys, usability studies, and ethnographies. All the while, you will also collaborate closely with our Analytics and Data Science teams to marry qualitative, quantitative, and behavioral data to further understand the needs of our users.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducting independent research on aspects of user product and device experiences
  • Collecting and analyzing user behavior via lab studies, field visits, online interviews, observational tests, ethnographies, surveys, benchmark studies, diary studies, and more
  • Working with Designers, Product Managers, Data Scientists, Analysts, and other UX Researchers to define research opportunities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Incorporating business requirements into your research
  • Accountability for the quality of your research outputs, ensuring a high bar for execution throughout the research process
  • Communicating and socializing research findings effectively, translating complex insights into actionable recommendations for your stakeholders
  • Influencing strategic and tactical product roadmaps
  • When necessary to your efforts, vendor management
  • Connecting with other Research colleagues across NBCUniversal to share insights as well as lessons learned in conducting research
  • Staying abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies


Additional Information: This is a part-time project / limited term position with an estimated duration of up to 12 months, unless otherwise amended or terminated as deliverables within this project are completed.


Salary Range: $120-140k
