The Ho'okahua Cultural Vibrancy Group at Kamehameha Schools is seeking a talented Hawaiian Culture-Based Video Producer to join our team. The mission of the Ho'okahua Cultural Vibrancy Group is to ensure that Hawaiian cultural vibrancy is cultivated, sustained, and thrives in perpetuity throughout Kamehameha Schools.
To fulfill this mission, the ideal candidate is a skilled video producer with experience in video production, including concept development, equipment and logistics, filming, audio, editing, and distribution. A strong grounding in Hawaiian culture is essential for this role, and moderate fluency in '?lelo Hawai'i (Hawaiian language) is strongly preferred.
Candidates must submit a portfolio demonstrating proficiency in video editing and the production process, particularly showcasing work produced through a Hawaiian cultural lens or within the Hawaiian community. Job Summary:
The Culture-Based Video Producer will provide comprehensive video coverage of rituals, ceremonies, presentations, workshops, and cultural activities. This role involves videotaping oral historical interviews with elders and culture bearers, producing culture-based documentaries, highlight reels, and promotional clips, and creating Pacific indigenous content for Ka'iwak?loumoku platforms. The producer will develop scripts and storyboards, coordinate and manage video shoots, record audio, and log and index video content. As a division culture-based video specialist, the producer will advise on matters related to Hawaiian and Indigenous Pacific video content production, reporting to the Ho'okahua division head and collaborating with internal stakeholders.

Essential Responsibilities:
Content Creation and Production
- Demonstrate expertise in producing native Hawaiian and Pacific indigenous video products.
- Design and integrate thematic emphasis on Hawaiian and Polynesian heritage, leadership, self-determination, and cultural practice.
- Create high-quality video content quickly across multiple platforms, including websites, social media, and events, for diverse audiences ranging from local public to international leaders.
- Develop and write scripts, captions, concept/treatment outlines, and storyboards.
- Record and edit audio for voiceovers, b-roll, and other production needs.
- Knowledge and experience in using a range of camera, audio recording, and lighting equipment.
- Knowledge and experience in using a range of editing applications and special effects.
- Able to create, maintain, and update social media accounts with relevant media such as reels, stories, and posts while utilizing appropriate audience engagement techniques.
Cultural Relationship Management
- Foster and maintain respectful and meaningful relationships with subjects, guest speakers, interviewees, and staff, embodying the values of hospitality (ho'okipa), spirituality (pule/pili 'uhane), and conflict resolution (ho'oponopono).
- Coordinate the involvement of knowledgeable elders, mentors, guest artists, and valued community resources in video production.
Project Coordination
- Organize and handle all preparation and clean-up needs for video shoots.
- Manage video shoots for divisional projects and initiatives, ensuring efficient and effective production processes.
- Log and index current and future video content for efficient access and retrieval.
Collaboration and Support
- Work with facility and divisional staff to support Ka'iwak?loumoku programs, special projects, hosting, ceremonies, and preparation of materials.
- Support all initiatives and projects of the Ho'okahua Cultural Vibrancy Group.
Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the above.
- Bachelor's Degree in video/film production or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a professional video producer
- Working knowledge of and familiarity with spoken and written '?lelo Hawai'i (Hawaiian language).
- A portfolio of video productions reflecting high cultural knowledge, authenticity, and excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic working knowledge of Hawaiian culture, history, traditions, and practices.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills to engage with diverse audiences in various cultural contexts.

Physical Requirements

Working Conditions
- Daily work conducted in an office/production space.
- Travel to various locations on-island and off-island for business, operating a school vehicle.
