We are looking for a highly skilled engineering manager with expertise in video compression, video processing, and embedded system software. This pivotal role involves leading a team of video codec and system software engineers, working on a wide range of use cases with diverse cross-functional groups within Apple's dynamic environment. The primary objective is to drive the development and productization of the complex Apple’s Video Encoder and Media Engine SW stack across most of both existing and future Apple products. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in these areas, along with a proven track record in managing teams to achieve exceptional results in a collaborative setting.

Description

This position requires a candidate with leadership, vision, creative & analytic skills, and a passion for the latest video coding and processing technologies. Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Lead the implementation and productization of the embedded software for Apple’s Video Encoder and Media Engine.
  2. Collaborate with hardware/software/infrastructure architects to define and implement media features and algorithms for future products.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. BS and a minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience.
  2. 3+ years of leadership and management expertise in delivering video compression and video processing projects, coupled with a track record of effective collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  3. Experience in software design and debugging workflow.

Key Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Deep knowledge and experience in video and image compression principles, algorithms, and techniques, video real-time/live streaming and downloading, and various video formats (SDR and HDR).
  2. Knowledge and experience in video processing algorithms such as spatial and temporal scaling, noise reduction, and tone mapping.
  3. Knowledge and experience in development and productization of video compression solutions such as H.264, HEVC, VVC, VP9, AV1.
  4. Experience in assessing visual quality using both objective metrics and subjective techniques.
  5. Familiarity with the latest machine learning technologies.
  6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $164,200 and $285,900, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
