This is for a full-time position, teaching college-level Visual Art courses to a diverse student population and managing the operational functions of the 3D visual art labs (Metal Sculpture, Wood, Jewelry, and Lapidary) and the 3D design class which is part of our General Education curriculum at Yavapai College. Supervision includes ensuring student safety in each lab space, direct hiring of adjunct faculty and staff, budget management and oversight of recruitment activities. Additional opportunities exist for online instruction and in two-dimensional disciplines such as painting, drawing, and printmaking.

Reporting to the Division Dean, the incumbent will teach discipline-specific courses as needed using a variety of methodologies. Responsibilities will include course preparation and instruction; program and class recruitment; curriculum development; participation in the on-campus college community and continued professional growth activities; and creative program building based on needs assessment and in collaboration with other faculty. May be asked to teach other courses in disciplines in which the applicant can be credentialed.

Besides traditional class structuring, the College is also attempting to meet the varying needs of our students by offering weekend, year-round, and compressed courses of instruction and services. Since service to our students is our highest priority, instructors can expect to participate in innovative methods and assignments may be multi-campus and/or at clinical agency locations with the possibility of interactive, online, day, evening, and/or weekend classes.

The key duties of this position are:
Supporting adjunct teachers with courses, syllabi, new adjunct needs, and assembling a successful teaching team.

Maintain curriculum and participate in course level and program level academic assessment; develop and refine syllabi; participate in all areas of divisional and departmental responsibilities; select textbooks and other instructional materials in compliance with developed college policies.

Be the face of the program to the college and business community.

Districtwide Art Department recruitment, including social media and outreach to high schools.

Participating in all regularly scheduled meetings of the department/division and professional staff.

Preparing preliminary budget materials for submission to the appropriate dean.

Participate in Job Fairs and Workforce development as outlined in YC Strategic Initiatives.

Integrate technology including Augmented and Virtual Reality into course design and use multiple instructional techniques in the teaching of visual art courses.

Knowledge of the safety protocols and correct usage of various machinery including polishers, welders, saws, grinders, bending machines, chemicals, etc.

Minimum Expectations & Requirements

Master's degree in Fine Art in Visual Art with a graduation date before the start of the Fall 2024 semester from an accredited University or Academy. OR a Master's degree or higher in another discipline with 18 graduate credit hours in Visual Art. Applicants who can provide evidence of 10 years of professional experience in the media or discipline to be taught may also be considered. This experience consists of but is not limited to, exhibition records, documentation of grant awards and professional use of the appropriate skills in the art. Potential instructors must provide evidence of a wide critical and public recognition and a record of teaching.

Preferred Skills & Abilities

  • Community college teaching experience
  • Experience with multi-media technology to enhance student learning such as Virtual and Augment Reality
  • Experience with online and/or blended/hybrid instruction
  • Experience working with culturally diverse populations
  • Ability to teach other courses as needed in 2D visual arts
  • Be knowledgeable in all phases of the instructional area of immediate concern, the application of design principals and elements in both a two dimensional and three dimensional format and ability to maintain strong links with local high schools.
  • Professional practices as it relates to digital and traditional Fine Art techniques
  • Possess ability to function effectively as a member of the faculty team
  • Knowledge of Canvas or other Learning Management Systems.
