About the Job
Summary of Position:
The University Relation's Digital Communications team is seeking to ll a Drupal Web Developer 2 position to support many of the University's marketing and communications needs. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining websites, coding HTML email templates, and supporting other digital media. Web Developers work with a marketing team including writers, designers, project managers, photographers, and videographers to create and update web and other digital communications that support the strategies of the University. The team collaborates with communicators and developers on all University campuses and works closely with the Oce of Information Technology. In this position you will use the Folwell web theme to develop and redesign University websites; help craft systemwide standard processes and resources like templates, accessibility standards, and Drupal training. In this role you will be a leader in the University's web community through systemwide collaboration.
This is a 100%-time, 12-month, annually renewable appointment in the academic professional and administrative (P&A) personnel series (job classification 9702WD, IT Pro 2-Web Dev/Design).
Job Duties:
General Website Creation and Maintenance (70%)
* Develops and builds responsive websites in Drupal using HTML, CSS, PHP, Twig, and Javascript.
* Congures layouts via node templates, paragraphs, blocks, or layout builder; write clean, reusable, and maintainable code following the web standard processes.
* Moves code and databases between environments on the Acquia platform and handles code deployments across multiple environments.
* Develops content types, custom solutions, accessibility features, elds, blocks, regions, views, sub-themes, entities, taxonomies, forms, and other web elements.
* Creates and styles Drupal websites to adhere to the University's Folwell web theme.
* Develops accessible components in the Pattern Library system based on guidance from the technical team lead.
* Collaborates and contributes to code development and issues management using Git source code management system and GitHub.
* Develops and participates in usability planning, prototype development, site testing, and issue resolution as issues are identied through UX and accessibility testing.
* Works with the digital project strategist, technical team lead, and digital communications director to ensure website solutions are appropriate and support the strategy for the site.
* Identify creative solutions for websites using new technologies.
* Ensures responsive design is applied well across our sites.
* Uses project management software (e.g. Asana) to prioritize and organize the work.
* Be familiar with and consistently use and promote the University's brand requirements, guidelines, and assets.
* Helps manage the coding and distribution of the University's central web and email header/footer assets (images, css, scripts) for responsive templates, CMS integration, and others as needed.
* Suggests improvements or changes in brand standards as technology evolves.
Quality Control and Website Testing (10%)
* Reviews, tests, and manages Drupal and module updates as recommended by the technical team lead and central IT.
* Researches and recommends modules to be added to the UMN Drupal platform.
* Tests and validates websites for accurate code structure, code standards, browser compatibility, appropriate responsive behavior, performance, alignment to University accessibility standards and the Folwell web theme, and brand compliance.
* Ensures websites meet WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility requirements
Web Support (15%)
* Partners with developers in the team to analyze and deliver specic client needs.
* Provides support for client-supported, Drupal websites including crafting a custom solution, issue management, documentation development, and training.
* Undertakes special projects as they arise.
* Develops responsive HTML templates for emails.
* Assists with other digital communication needs as they arise.
* Draft and publish blog content regarding evolving digital trends, web standard processes, and maintaining brand standards for the web.
Professional Development (5%)
* Independently learns features of new and changing technologies through online and written materials.
* Attends conferences, workshops, seminars, and participates in other professional development opportunities.
* Participates in various committees and groups on and o campus such as Web People.
* Presents on web development projects, evolving digital trends, web standard processes, and brand standards to various communities of practice and conferences,, such as Twin Cities Drupal Camp.
* Develop skills to assist in projects that incorporate technologies not currently used by UR.
Reporting Structure: This position reports to the senior developer and technical team lead.
Work Schedule: Work days are Monday-Friday. Flexible hours between 7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m CST. Final work schedule to be determined upon hire.

Required Qualifications:
* BA/BS degree in MIS, computer science, or a closely related eld AND TWO years of progressively more responsible professional experience in a variety of information technology areas related to the duties assigned, or master's degree.
* Experience in using GitHub and coding in HTML, CSS, PHP, Twig, and Javascript.
* Experience in Drupal 9/10 site-building.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Knowledge of WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards and its implementation.
* Experience working with the University's Folwell web theme.
* Experience with Drupal sub-theming.
* Experience with CSS preprocessors such as SASS.
* Comfortable with coding 'from scratch' as well as light use of existing frameworks.
* Comfortable with setting up local development environments.
* Ability to work within a team environment where design and production are a collaborative eort.
* Good background in user interface design and development, including familiarity with standard processes used to ensure quality, usability, and accessibility of developed websites.
* Demonstrable ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Ability to develop user and technical documentation.
* Ability to take on new projects and learn new skills as technology changes and grows.
* Experience with higher education.
* Clear understanding of Google and Microsoft tools, spreadsheets and familiarity with Figma, Salesforce Marketing Cloud and Adobe creative suite.

About the DepartmentThe Digital Communications team is a part of the Marketing and Communications unit within University Relations, the University of Minnesota's central communications unit. University Relations promotes pride, trust, and understanding of the University to internal and external audiences, working extensively with the Oce of the President, central administrative units, system campuses and many of the schools and colleges across the University.
The Digital Communications team supports a suite of approximately 40-50 Drupal websites. Team members work with a team of marketing professionals to create and update web and other digital communications that support the strategies of the University. Our team has developed the University's Folwell web theme in collaboration with the University's Oce of Information Technology and collaborates with communicators and developers on all University campuses.
Pay Range: $78,000 to $82,000 annually; depending on education/qualifications/experience
Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment
