The Walmart Global Technology team is building enterprise-grade technology platforms that will transform retail. These platforms are battle tested at Walmart scale, and we’re also exploring externalizing our technology services so other companies can leverage these same innovative technologies.

As part of our team, you'll help document our Last Mile Delivery solutions which will be used by Walmart and other retailers using our Third-party Technology Services. You’ll work among engineers, product designers, and operators in a fast-growing environment. This role requires a mix of technical aptitude, communication skills, deep knowledge of grammar and punctuation, as well as strong project management skills.

Responsibilities

  1. Gather information, interview SMEs, and conduct research
  2. Create world class product documentation, including conceptual and task-based documentation, API reference documentation, internal training materials, SOP (Standard Operating Procedures), configuration guides, what’s new documentation, and release notes
  3. Edit, clarify, and proofread documents written by others
  4. Author, publish, and manage knowledgebase content
  5. Plan and write support content that’s easy to find, use, and understand
  6. Work closely with leads, project managers, designers, and partners from Engineering, Product, and Program teams
  7. Identify content gaps and propose logical ways to solve them based on data
  8. Synthesize content requests and data from multiple sources into cohesive content plans
  9. Participate in the Writing team’s efforts to establish style and process guidelines, and make recommendations to help the team choose good tools for writing and publishing documentation
  10. Plan, execute, and publish comprehensive documentation to support product releases
  11. Work with product stakeholders to identify audience information requirements and important documentation deliverables
  12. Contribute to the ongoing evolution of product documentation design and implementation
  13. Build and maintain a resource of aids for users that go beyond traditional documentation, such as online video, demos, and other educational techniques
  14. Learn complex concepts and communicate the information in a way that is engaging and understood by users

Education and Experience Qualifications

  1. BA in English, Technical Writing, or a relevant area (Master's degree in technical communication preferred)
  2. 5-10 years of experience in technical product documentation
  3. Demonstratable experience working with a variety of methodologies for helping and educating users
  4. Proficiency in extracting subject matter expert knowledge and communicating it in a meaningful way
  5. Experience with consuming and writing API documentation
  6. A passion for understanding customers’ needs and delivering world-class content
  7. Excellent planning, organizational, and execution skills with an ability to manage multiple, competing priorities in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment
  8. Knowledge of technical writing standards and ability to adhere to a style guide
  9. A track record of excellent communication and cooperation, preferably in a global and culturally diverse organization
  10. Excellent writing skills and the ability to make complex topics easy and engaging

Nice to Have

  1. Experience developing content in an Agile environment
  2. Knowledge of web technologies, such as HTTP cookies
  3. An understanding of what a developer would want to see in documentation for RESTful JSON APIs
  4. A strong understanding of how web services work in general
  5. Ability to write sample code to consume the APIs in Python, Ruby, or Java
