General Summary:
Under general direction of the Deputy Director, IT Support Services, the IT Technical Writer is responsible for the creation and maintenance of IT Support Services teams (ITOC, SD, Desktop) documentation. This position is responsible to translate technical and/or complicated information into clear, concise documents appropriate for various target audiences. Works with various IT departments and technical subject matter experts (SMEs) to produce a wide variety of technical documentation that may include processes, procedures, reference architectures, network drawings, and information flows for use by both IT and other user communities. Interview SMEs to collect information, prepare written text, coordinate layout, and determine the format and material for the organization.
Essential Functions:
•Research ST available templates and use them as appropriate.
•Writing & editing software documentation.
•Working with developers/engineers/system administrators in writing documentation
•Working with internal teams on product and documentation requirements
•Creating "how to" articles and videos. Collects, organizes, analyzes, and synthesizes complex IT Security, IT Infrastructure, and ST subject matter and transforms it into easy-to-consume information tailored to specific audiences.
•Edits, proofreads, and validates documents to ensure that quality and content objectives are met. Reviews and clarifies content with subject-matter experts. Formatting content as appropriate for its intended audience
•Analyze existing and potential content, focusing on reuse and single- sourcing.
•Maintains all documents in common repository and communicates with the team accordingly.
•Publishes documents into a secure system according to security guidelines and corporate procedures. May publish documents on ST's Intranet using SharePoint designer software. Other Functions:
•Serve as IT Security liaison working with other technical associates on the documentation of specific departmental and functional documentation efforts.
•Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
•Must have the ability to translate technical information into easily comprehended end products.
•Experience with MS Office products •Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•Knowledgeable with various software applications including those involved with drawing, publishing documents.
•Minimum Bachelor's degree or Associate degree in technical writing, English or business with 5+ years of experience writing IT technical documentation.
Required Licenses or Certifications: None
Required Knowledge of:
•Has end-user experience using and/or administering SharePoint to manage documentation.
•Has experience using ITSM such as ServiceNow tool.
•Creating Knowledge Base articles.
Required Skill in:
•Extremely organized.
•Ability to prioritize a heavy workload
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
•Work is performed in a standard office environment and/or via hybrid office.
•Subject to standing, walking, bending, reaching, stooping, and lifting of objects up to 25 pounds.
