Lab49 is seeking an experienced front-end lead engineer who will report to our Interactive Practice Head in New York City. As a consultancy focused on innovation, we build applications that embrace the latest trends in technology and design, ensuring timely and budget-friendly delivery. Our teams collaborate on a variety of client projects, ranging from short-term solutions with high business value to long-term next-generation financial systems or platforms that transform our client’s businesses.
Base salary is only one component of our total compensation package. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus, which is determined upon company and individual performance. Salary range disclosure as required by S9427A when hiring in New York.

We expect our Lab49ers to average 2-3 days per week in person and this could be at our midtown office in NYC or at a client site. Candidate Profile
- The ideal candidate will possess hands-on experience in building technology systems, operating throughout the project lifecycle, and will prioritize successful project delivery. Effectively managing project teams and interacting with clients, especially in Finance, Solutions Consulting, or start-up environments, is crucial.
- The successful candidate will be passionate about technology and innovation, staying informed about the latest industry trends through active participation in industry events, meet-ups, and more. Recognizing the evolving technology landscape, this individual remains updated and continuously retools.
- Act as a hands-on engineer and architect to support work across the Interactive front-end Interactive Practice, from small initiatives to the design and build of complex systems. Lead and actively participate in projects, serving as a role model for project teams and collaborating with other practices to ensure successful outcomes.
- Lead engineers and stakeholders to ensure progress and results, maintaining a commercial approach. Develop strong relationships with clients as a strategic partner and technical advisor, contributing to expanding our footprint and securing follow-on work.
- Partner with the business development team to create and deliver compelling pitches, defining problems, captivating clients, presenting solutions, and working out engagement terms. Build and reinforce your professional network through active engagement in industry events, public speaking opportunities, etc.
- Provide thought leadership for the Interactive Engineering Practice and encourage learning and development within the New York engineering team. Contribute to the ongoing effort to find, attract, interview, and hire top software engineering talent.
- Assist in developing effective management skills and practices among line managers in the Engineering practice, fostering strategic career planning and development for the engineering team as a whole.
Requirements
- 10+ years of hands-on experience designing and building complex, commercial-grade software applications, with 5+ years leading Agile teams.
- Extensive experience in commercial-grade web/front-end development.
- Strong experience in JavaScript building Single Page Web Applications with modern frameworks (e.g., Angular, React, Node.js, Vue).
- Solid skills in HTML5 and CSS3.
- Experience with one or more cloud platforms and a working understanding of contemporary SDLC practices such as continuous delivery.
- Proven track record in effective leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making.
- Strong understanding of the value of testing, quality, continuous integration, source control, and code reviews.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
- Experience in capital markets, financial markets/products, consulting is highly desirable.
