The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions strives to be a leader in our Tax Auditing unit by meeting and/or exceeding the federal guidelines established by the United States Department of Labor (US DOL) through our Tax Performance System (TPS) and Effective Audit Measures (EAM). We do this by offering the New Mexico taxpayer an integrated approach to ensuring their compliance with the department through yearly random audits, enhanced services for employers, and ensuring fair labor practices, policies and workforce protections and enforcement for New Mexico tax payers.
Why does the job exist?
The Tax Supervisor, located within the Unemployment Insurance (UI) Customer Service/Operations Center, is responsible for effectively managing a team that provides unemployment insurance services to the employers of New Mexico.
How does it get done?
This position provides day-today supervision through conducting reviews of employer audits, employee evaluations, providing effective leadership to a team within the UI Customer Service/Operations Center staff by conducting timely employee evaluations, ensuring adequate staffing is maintained, coaching employees through progressive discipline and
provides opportunities for career development and addressing personnel actions to include but not limited to hiring, training, coaching, maintaining adequate staffing, coordinating workflow and correcting employee conduct and performance issues.
Position will also conduct audits, respond to incoming calls and emails, assisting employers with quarterly wage reports and payments. Will coordinate workflow to include wage investigations and report delinquency activities. Position will work cohesively with co-supervisors within the UI Customer Service/Operations Center to ensure consistent and clear guidance is provided to team members while fulfilling the operational goal and performance measures and to establish standards and operation procedures with the management team to operate an effective UI Customer Service/Operations Center.

Ideal Candidate
Have the ability to review audit findings submitted by Tax Representatives to ensure accuracy relative to NMDWS statutes and regulations.
Excellent problem solving skills to be able to make determinations supported by the facts obtained through investigation.
Manage staff and business processes in an efficient manner while ensuring consistent services to employers is provided.
Excellent communication, including verbal and written, is needed as well as strong management and leadership skills.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and two (2) years of claims adjustment and/or investigative experience preferably in the insurance profession. For positions in the Unemployment Insurance (UI) Operations Center at the Department of Workforce Solutions: Any additional call center customer service experience in claims taking and/or processing (UI preferably), eligibility determination, identifying, troubleshooting and resolving customer complaints and ensuring compliance will substitute for the education and experience. Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Must be able to lift 30 lbs.
