This role will support product design efforts for IBM Z systems software. Our software is utilized by the world’s largest enterprises, delivering security, resiliency, performance, scalability, and sustainability through IBM’s flagship enterprise compute platform.
As a UX Research intern, you’ll play a crucial role in uncovering insights, informing product design decisions, and forging new opportunities to improve business outcomes through the rigorous study of people and the ecosystems in which they exist.
Your Role and Responsibilities
Functional Responsibilities
- Identifying and communicating appropriate research methodologies to address research opportunity
- Recruiting appropriate participants for research plans and goals
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative research studies, such as interviews, surveys, competitive analyses, prioritization exercises, concept testing, contextual inquiry, and user journey mapping to gather insights about user behaviors, needs, and preferences.
- Analyzing qualitative and quantitative data to generate insights
- Delivering compelling stories to communicate actionable insights for team and stakeholders
- Continuously building team understanding and empathy through empirical observation, experience, and making.
- Grow domain knowledge by learning the value proposition of your product, its market position, the basics of its technologies and how it’s used by our customers.
- Develop enough domain fluency to contribute ideas that support product differentiation
- Attend and participate in design and product-oriented activities, such as stand-ups, Town Halls, product demos or design critiques.
- Develop the ability to find and apply relevant industry references/trends.
- Identify improvement opportunities at the individual product level
- UX Research methodologies: knowledge and/or experience of conducting qualitative and quantitative research methods such as interviews, surveys, competitive analyses, prioritization exercises, concept testing, contextual inquiry, and user journey mapping
- Data analysis: Proficiency in data collection and analysis, and the ability to triangulate customer insights from a combination of data sources to derive meaningful insights.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to leverage storytelling to effectively convey complex research findings and recommendations to diverse stakeholders.
- Dynamic Environment: Comfortable collaborating with cross-functional teams and delivering UX research initiatives within an agile product development environment
- UX Principles: Solid understanding of UX principles, design thinking, and human-centered design processes.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities, with a keen eye for detail.
- Passion for user-centered design, empathy for users, and a commitment to delivering exceptional user experiences.

Location Statement Supplemental 1 employees may be eligible for up to 8 paid holidays, minimum of 56 hours paid sick time and the IBM Employee Stock Purchase Plan. IBM offers paid family medical leave and disability benefits to eligible employees where required by applicable law. The compensation range and benefits for this position are based on a full-time schedule for a full calendar year. The salary will vary depending on your job-related skills, experience and location. Pay increment and frequency of pay will be in accordance with employment classification and applicable laws. For part time roles, your compensation and benefits will be adjusted to reflect your hours. Benefits may be pro-rated for those who start working during the calendar year. This position was posted on the date cited in the key job details section and is anticipated to remain posted for 21 days from this date or less if not needed to fill the role.
