Job Title: Engineering Manager - Tulsa Radio

Position Overview

Cox Media Group is searching for a Manager of Engineering responsible for managing and executing all engineering functions for our radio stations in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and will report to the Tulsa Director of Engineering.

This position requires a strong leader with excellent communication skills and an ability to direct and motivate technical staff. Varied and extended hours may include some weekends, holidays, on-call, and required travel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Planning, executing, and timely completion of all projects and maintenance of technical systems including station's transmitter, studio, and station facilities.
  • Ensure compliance with all FCC, FAA, FEMA, and Company rules, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Ensure IT systems and network vulnerability remediation efforts are completed in alignment with CMG goals.
  • Recommend and oversee the purchase of equipment necessary to produce a quality product and maximize effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Must work closely with the other departments to ensure technology needs are met.
  • Additional duties as necessary.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (continued)
  • Must be able to deal confidentially with sensitive information.
  • Exudes superior customer service, fosters teamwork, and leads by example.
  • Significant technical expertise in the planning, implementation, and maintenance of radio station facilities, including RF and IP systems.
  • Understand the operation of all station equipment, including use of all related test equipment.
  • Requires on-call status when emergencies or failure of critical equipment occurs to the operation of the station. Occasional night and weekend work can be expected.
  • Documents equipment installation, wiring, maintenance, repair, and replacement.
  • Ensure that all projects are properly implemented and executed per agreed-upon schedule.
  • Must be able to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with excellent attention to detail, accuracy and strong organizational skills.
  • Responds to equipment outages, malfunctions, and related technical problems at studio, transmitter, and translator locations.
  • Ensure operation and maintenance of company vehicles according to the guidelines of the station and Cox Media Group.
  • Heavy computer usage, including repetitive hand use and movement, is required. Some lifting is required. Some climbing and crawling may be required.
  • Must be able to climb ladders, work in small places, and lift 50 pounds.
  • Work performed primarily in Engineering Shop, in studios and transmitter facilities, both inside and outside, and in an office environment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires a minimum 5 years of related experience in radio station studio and transmission systems engineering and/or college degree in Electronics or equivalent combination of education and experience. An SBE Certification is desired as well as IT-related certifications.
  • Extensive knowledge of all broadcast systems throughout the audio chain. Knowledge of Wheatstone AoIP systems and Wide Orbit automation systems is highly desired.
  • Understanding of broadcast and IT monitoring and control technologies including Burk and SNMP protocol is required.
  • Extensive audio engineering knowledge and experience with state-of-the-art broadcast audio processor equipment, automation systems, and studio design.
  • Strong working knowledge of high-powered multi-station FM transmission systems. Extensive HD radio knowledge and experience is desirable.
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Visio software is required.
  • Strong IT experience including virtualized systems management (VMWare/Proxmox), Windows Server and AD/Azure, software patching services (BigFix), network configuration and management (Cisco/Fortinet), Windows and Linux OSes, and Adobe Creative Cloud applications is desired.
  • Knowledge and experience in live performance production, live video production, and remote broadcast technologies is desired.
  • This is a service-oriented position requiring excellent written and oral communications, personable and timely interaction and response with fellow employees, and organizational skills.
  • Must possess or obtain a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
