Our science team works at the intersection of Recommender Systems, Information Retrieval, Machine Learning and Natural Language Understanding. We leverage techniques from all these fields to create novel algorithms that allow our customers to engage with the right content at the right time. Our work directly contributes to making our devices delightful to use and indispensable for the household.

As a Research Scientist, you will be responsible for the natural language understanding models for Fire TV use cases. Your work will directly impact our customers in the form of novel products and services that make use of speech and language technology.

Key Job Responsibilities

  1. Ensure data quality throughout all stages of acquisition and processing, including areas such as data sourcing/collection, ground truth generation, normalization, transformation, cross-lingual alignment/mapping, etc.
  2. Clean, analyze and select data to achieve goals.
  3. Build and release models that elevate the customer experience and track impact over time.
  4. Design and run experiments, evaluate the impact of your optimizations, and communicate the results to various business stakeholders.
  5. Collaborate with colleagues from science, engineering and business backgrounds.
  6. Present proposals and results in a clear manner backed by data and coupled with actionable conclusions.
  7. Work with engineers to develop efficient data querying infrastructure for both offline and online use cases.
  8. Be a member of the Amazon-wide Machine Learning community, participating in internal and external meet-ups, hackathons, and conferences.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  1. PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of quantitative field research experience.
  2. Experience investigating the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to business problems and products.
  3. Experience analyzing both experimental and observational data sets.
  4. Experience with any programming language such as Python, Java, C++.
  5. Experience in machine learning, statistics, and deep learning.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Knowledge of R, MATLAB, Python or similar scripting language.
  2. Experience with agile development.
  3. Experience building web-based dashboards using common frameworks.

Compensation: Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
