Job Description

The College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR) Grants Office looking for a Senior Grant Writer.

The Senior Grant Writer assists and encourages faculty in securing extramural research funding, much of which is for interdisciplinary project teams and multiple investigators; facilitates inter-college/university partnerships related to grant proposal development; leads divisional grantsmanship training for faculty, staff and students; engages in appropriate professional development opportunities. Individual must be comfortable working in an environment that is deadline-driven with a high volume of proposals to process periodically and possess good communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate the roles of multiple investigators in the preparation of grant proposals often involving multiple departments, schools or colleges, and (quite often) investigators from off campus.
  • Assist junior faculty in learning the grant process and grantsmanship, and help them secure funding to establish and grow their research programs.
  • Initiate, attend and contribute to planning meetings, budget construction, writing, editing, final preparation, and coordination of applications to federal, state, corporate and foundation sponsors.
  • Obtain and interpret grant proposal guidelines and requirements as determined by agency publications and regulations.
  • Compile and prepare materials and information to comply with sponsor requirements.
  • Provide detailed critiques of draft documents, identifying missing information and potential problem areas, and work with investigators to strengthen and complete the applications.
  • Provide editorial services and advise investigators concerning form, style and format of proposal materials.
  • Work with the other members of the CAFNR Research Team to organize and present grants training for CAFNR faculty, staff, and students.
  • Work with the other members of the CAFNR Grants Office to provide policy and practical guidance to the Associate Dean for Research.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Shift

8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Monday - Friday

May be eligible to work remotely one day per week after 6 months with supervisory approval.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience, and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with prior experience developing proposals, preparing/submitting grant applications from federal agencies.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $51,875 - $60,000 Salary commensurate with education and experience.
