Job summary:

As part of the Rad Science team (a part of Real Chemistry), Senior Medical Writers are responsible for supporting multiple accounts and therapeutic areas as a researcher and writer of medical/scientific content.

This role can be remote in the US or in person at any of our US offices, including New York City, Boston, or Chicago.

What you’ll do:

  1. Medical Research, Writing and Content Development

Independently researches and writes medical/scientific content for deliverables with appropriate oversight from Scientific Strategy leadership. Deliverables may include presentation decks, visual illustrations, scientific narratives/scripts for animations and interactive media, and engagements for scientific congress meetings.

Performs literature searches with an ability to interpret and evaluate data and complex scientific concepts.

Identifies appropriate evidence to support content development and key medical claims.

Clear writing style and an ability to develop a compelling scientific story from complex information.

Summarizes key communication points succinctly and accurately.

Creates messaging based on scientific data to align with strategic needs.

Develops an in-depth understanding of disease state(s), product(s), and market landscape(s) to inform content development.

Articulates the scientific story to non-scientific colleagues in a clear and concise manner.

Incorporates edits requested by internal team, clients, and/or thought leaders during the lifecycle of a project.

Acquires familiarity with client requirements and brand guidelines and can proactively apply these guidelines when creating scientific content.

Demonstrates familiarity with and supports submission process for a variety of deliverables.

Has awareness of Medical, Legal, and Regulatory (MLR) guidelines and principles for submission.

Ensures accuracy of scientific messages/content and confirms appropriate literature support.

Correctly annotates and references scientific literature (in compliance with AMA guidelines).

Prepares relevant materials for client and MLR submission, including annotations, highlighted references, and reference packages.

Partners with Scientific Strategy leadership to attend live MLR reviews and provide rationale and/or alternate content solutions as needed.

Ability to interpret and implement MLR feedback.

Provides support in development of presentation materials for new business and organic growth opportunities with oversight from Scientific Strategy leadership as needed.

  1. Team Partnership

Partners closely with Scientific Strategy team:

For supervision and guidance on projects to ensure appropriate levels of review for each project and incorporation of feedback.

To understand brand strategy as well as client objectives and pull through into content.

Collaborates with Creative department to brainstorm ideas and help translate scientific concepts/data into visual representations.

Provides support and guidance as needed to maintain scientific accuracy of all deliverables.

Works cross-functionally with Account Management and Project Management teams to understand project objectives, client requests, and ways of working to successfully deliver high-quality projects.

May periodically support Account Management and Project Management teams (with guidance from Scientific Strategy leadership) during content presentations, client meetings, thought leader discussions, and/or MLR reviews to communicate science, provide rationale for content decisions, and/or troubleshoot requested changes.

Serves as content expert for assigned account(s) by maintaining scientific understanding of therapeutic area(s) and proactively shares knowledge/guidance with the wider teams.

  1. Scientific Project Management

Regularly connects with Scientific Strategy leadership to manage workflow for assigned projects and meet associated deadlines.

Effectively communicates with Scientific Strategy, Account Management, and Project Management team leads to ensure project timelines and client expectations are met, proactively flagging conflicts and potential impacts on timelines.

Becomes part of the solution by collaborating with the Account Management and Project Management team leads, proposing alternative ideas and resolutions if challenges arise.

Attends and participates in internal and client status meetings to ensure team alignment on all projects.

May periodically provide input to Scientific Strategy leadership on the development of budgets and timelines for projects.

Experience & Requirements

An advanced degree in biomedical sciences: PharmD, PhD, or MD.

1-3 years of previous medical writing experience in a medical communications agency or pharmaceutical company.

Oncology experience strongly preferred.

Solid understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, MLR guidelines, and FDA practices.

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat is highly desirable.

Familiarity with AMA guidelines is highly desirable.

Pay Range: $90,000 - $115,000


This is the pay range the Company believes it will pay for this position at the time of this posting. Consistent with applicable law, compensation will be determined based on job-related, non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to work experience, skills, certifications, and geographical location.
