In order to participate in Berklee Student Employment, a student must fulfill the following requirements:
  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
  • Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.
  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).
  • Remain in "valid" Visa status as applicable.
  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.
  • Federal Work Study student may apply.
  • In good disciplinary standing.
  • Must be located in the U.S.

The Contemporary Writing and Production Department at Berklee is seeking applications for the CWP Music Preparation Tutor position. This is a part-time student employment position.

Mission:
Under the supervision of the Chair of the Contemporary Writing and Production
Department, the CWP Music Preparation Tutor provides peer mentoring to students in music preparation and notation software to support Contemporary Writing and Production students taking writing courses like CW-171: Groove Writing, CW-216: Vocal Writing, and CW-211: Advanced Ensemble Writing.

Responsibilities:
  • Tutor Contemporary Writing and Production students in music preparation proficiency.
  • Hold regularly scheduled office hours during the semester.
  • Maintain an inclusive department climate that supports all students regardless of their identities and learning styles.


Requirements:
  • Be a Contemporary Writing and Production Major student in good academic standing.
  • Successful completion of CW-211: Advanced Ensemble Writing and the CW-496: Score and Parts Preparation Proficiency.
  • Significant experience in music preparation in digital and physical formats.
  • In-depth knowledge of professional notation software, particularly Finale and/or Sibelius.
  • Good interpersonal, teaching, and communication skills.
  • Strong interest in teaching and learning, learning styles, learning disabilities, and special needs.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student population with particular attention to academic skills and special needs.
  • Commitment to tutoring of up to 6 hours per week during the Fall and Spring semesters, with the possibility to tutor up to 2 hours per week during the Summer semester.
