Northwestern University is seeking a temporary Music Processing Assistant for the Evanston campus.
Temporary Job Description:
This temporary part-time position will work within the McCormick Library Collections Services unit at Northwestern University Libraries, which is responsible for analyzing and arranging historic manuscripts, photographs, artifacts, periodicals, and other archival materials.
This temporary position will arrange, describe, and process the Adegoke Steve Colson Papers and the Halim EL-Dabh papers. Both are composers of experimental concert music, and the collections each hold a diverse and complicated range of materials including manifestations of musical works.
This project will involve rehousing materials, arranging them, writing narrative biographical information, processing born-digital content, and creating a finding aid to the collection, which will be used by students and scholars. Applicants should have a basic familiarity with creating and using finding aids.
This project is expected to run January 06, 2025 - May 31, 2025.

Required skills: For temp position or freelancer:
- Ability to read music, familiarity with music formats both written and recorded sound, experience in processing archives and in the creation of finding aids, attentive to detail; interest in researching primary sources; good writing and computer skills; ability to work independently; flexibility; ability to lift 40-lbs boxes. Current MLIS students and recent graduates of MLIS programs are encouraged to apply.
- Work is primarily from a desk (shared workspace); the role is 100% on site at Main Library.
