Location:OH-Dayton Job Title: Chief Engineer - WHIO TV Position Overview WHIO TV Dayton is looking for an Engineering Manager supports the growth and profitability of operations through maintaining all video editing systems, and equipment necessary to deliver news, advertising and information across our TV platforms. This position provides proactive maintenance support to ensure product quality, 24/7 uptimes, reduced business operational risk and provide strategic planning of TV engineering to drive our business forward. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for maintaining equipment for all aspects of on air product - TV air chain, video editing systems, IT networks, graphic systems, and weather systems. Manage integration and maintenance of TV engineering equipment - both IT and transmission. Document: using a computerized database, word processor & drawing program, equipment & wiring of systems and equipment. Support station and field operations, as necessary. Create instructional materials and teach Engineering and non-Engineering personnel the proper use of equipment. Must be available to support 24/7 operations. Planning and completion of projects and maintenance while ensuring compliance with all FCC, FAA, and Company rules, regulations, and guidelines. Assist and advise the Director of Engineering & Operations. Maintain, maximize, and service station's transmitter, studio, and station facilities. Recommends and oversees the purchase of equipment necessary to produce a quality product and maximize efficiencies. Assist management in the long-range planning of replacement equipment of the station. Supervise and train the maintenance engineers and broadcast specialists, as necessary, on the repair of the electronic and mechanical equipment of the station. Responsible for the planning, implementation, installation, and maintenance of station-wide capital projects. Responsible for improving operational capabilities and supporting all revenue and audience producing efforts. Works closely with the other departments in the maintenance and operation of their equipment as well as additional duties as necessary. Foster open communication with staff, and support team's vision, direction, and priorities. Assist in establishing mission critical procedures. Support a positive business climate which motivates employees. Demonstrate the flexibility necessary to adjust to changing/additional duties and responsibilities as the markets and company changes. Minimum Qualifications 8 years of related experience in television engineering systems and/or; Bachelors degree in Electronics or equivalent SBE Certification desirable. Must be able to deal confidentially with sensitive information. Stress superior service, foster teamwork, and lead by example. Understand the operation of station equipment; Use/knowledge of specialized and std broadcast test equipment. Knowledge of the rules and regulations of the FCC. Must possess good IT skill sets as they pertain to Broadcast equipment. Advanced knowledge of RF & UHF transmitters, ENG, SNG and microwave systems. Requires on call status when emergencies or failure of critical equipment occurs to the operation of the station. Maintaining a spare parts inventory and/or ordering replacement parts as needed. Requires the ability to work with and negotiate with vendors and suppliers for the station. Must have the ability to make decisions and take prompt action. Must have attention to detail with a great degree of accuracy. Operation of company vehicles must be done with the safety of the operator, other personnel and general public in mind, according to the guidelines of the station. Windows and or networking certification Comprehensive knowledge of IT equipment as it pertains to TV broadcast and business operations.
