The Senior Vice President for Artistic Planning and Programs serves as an organizational leader with a focus on the creation and execution of NWS's artistic endeavors. Guided by NWS’s strategic plan and the artistic vision of the Artistic Director, they oversee the planning and implementation of programming that is in service to the artistic development of NWS Fellows, ensuring the fellowship program offers in-depth exposure to diverse repertoire and other musical experiences necessary for the 21st century musician. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Serve as a member of the senior leadership team in establishing organizational strategy, priorities, goals and budget and fostering a positive and inclusive organizational culture Collaborate with the Artistic Director, Director of Artistic Planning and other pertinent staff from the Musician Advancement, Institutional Advancement and NWS Media teams in developing and planning innovative and inclusive artistic programming and concert experiences that attract and educate fellows and audiences and support revenue goals, including selection of themes, repertoire and guest artists Expand the NWS’s reputation as an innovator in performance formats, education, and online content Cultivate a network of professional contacts in classical music, including conductors, soloists, composers, artist managers, designers, directors, etc. Invite, schedule, contract and engage guest artists, including conductors, soloists, composers, dancers, stage directors, guest designers, and other collaborators Manage commissioning and contracting of works of music and music-related works of video and projection design, choreography, theatrical productions, etc Establish artistic partnerships to collaborate on co-commissions, content creation, etc. Collaborate with the Artistic Director, the Vice President, Program Operations, and pertinent staff from the Musician Advancement team in developing each season’s program activities calendar, including schedule of rehearsals, concerts, and other fellowship program activities Attend rehearsals and concerts, ensuring high-quality productions and artist/audience experiences Lead the 13-member Artistic Programs team Develop and oversee the Artistic Programs budget in collaboration with the Vice President, Program Operations and Director of Artistic Planning Participate in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors and prospective donors interesting in funding artistic programs, initiatives or collaborations Stay abreast of emerging artists, composers, visual content creators, and artistic activities in the classical music field and recommend new activities and models to advance the organization’s priorities and drive the future of the art form Serve as a member of the organization’s Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB) Committee and Repertoire and Programming Sub-Committee Perform other job-related duties as assigned SUPERVISORY RESPONSBILITIES: Supervises the Vice President, Program Operations and Director of Artistic Planning KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Possess a strong appreciation for the mission and culture of the New World Symphony Extensive knowledge of classical orchestral and chamber music Ability to serve as a creative partner in exploring integration of classical music with digital tools for expression Commitment to developing programs and opportunities that support the organization’s EDIB goals An unwavering commitment to artistic and production excellence Ability to cultivate trust and credibility with colleagues Ability to successfully manage resources—human, financial and physical—to maximize productivity and assure the highest quality work Well-developed written and verbal communication skills Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of personalities Ability to negotiate favorable terms for contracts and agreements Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to simultaneously manage and meet deadlines for numerous long- and short-range artistic initiatives PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to work a variable schedule with an extensive time commitment including frequent weekend and evening hours
