Job Description: Technical Writer - Create, update, and maintain technical documentation such as reports, manuals, instructions, proposals, and policy guides. Ensure all materials are accurate, transparent, and compliant with federal cybersecurity guidelines. Collaborate closely with DHS policy teams, security specialists, and technical staff to document procedures, operations, and compliance measures.
Job Overview:
- Develop and maintain accurate technical documentation related to cybersecurity policies, system audits, and federal compliance procedures.
- Write, edit, and organize content to support DHS security audits, policy updates, and operational reviews.
- Collaborate with security specialists, policy teams, and technical staff to ensure all documentation complies with federal cybersecurity mandates.
- Ensure documentation aligns with DHS-specific cybersecurity protocols and federal standards for clarity, conciseness, and accessibility.
Security Clearance: Secret

- Job Responsibilities:
- Create and update comprehensive documentation on DHS cybersecurity policies, including procedures for system security audits, risk assessments, and compliance initiatives.
- Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to accurately document technical processes, risk mitigation strategies, and security protocols.
- Ensure documentation reflects federal cybersecurity frameworks such as FISMA, FedRAMP, and other relevant standards.
- Prepare materials for cybersecurity training sessions and ensure all technical content is accessible to both technical and non-technical personnel.
- Revise existing documents to reflect updated policies, compliance requirements, and audit findings, ensuring they meet DHS security standards.
- Develop visual aids such as diagrams, flowcharts, and tables to enhance understanding of technical content, particularly for policy or audit procedures.
- Maintain an organized repository of all technical documents, version histories, and revisions for easy access during audits and policy reviews.
- Participate in stakeholder meetings to gather and incorporate feedback on document drafts, ensuring alignment with DHS operational goals and regulatory changes.
- Provide editorial support to ensure all technical writing adheres to DHS style guides and documentation best practices.
