Write, rewrite, and edit technical documents such as O-Level and D-Level operations and maintenance manuals, payload operator manuals, software user manuals, and training documentation to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences.

Acquires subject knowledge by: (1) interviewing product developers, engineers, logisticians, lab technicians, 3D model animators, production personnel, and field technicians, (2) observing performance of system operations and maintenance, and (3) researching technical specifications, related program documents, engineering drawings, 3D animations/job aids, and operations/maintenance videos. Conducts peer reviews of program documents generated; coordinates stakeholder review with Configuration Management (CM).

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Must have excellent technical writing skills with a focus on accuracy and consistency of both technical information and documentation layout.
• Working with mechanical, electrical, data flow and maintenance concepts.
• Responsible for acquiring/creating original illustrations for manuals.
• Must be a highly motivated, self-starter who is deadline-driven.
• Writer will be responsible for all phases of document generation (i.e., researching, writing, incorporating updates, and delivery via CM).
• Must have a focus on the end-user needs to safely perform his/her job, while protecting the equipment from potential damage and ensuring a successful mission.
• Must be able to research available resources in a timely manner to find needed information.
• Must be able to manage his/her time well to generate high quality documentation on schedule.

Basic Qualifications for a Technical Writer and Editor:

• 2 years relevant experience with Bachelors; 0 years of relevant experience with Masters; 4 years of relevant experience with Associate degree.
• Must have a solid technical writing background with emphasis on hardware maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe PhotoShop, and Acrobat Pro.
• Must have active/current Secret Clearance.

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Technical Writer and Editor:

• 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors; 3 years of relevant experience with Masters; 7 years of relevant experience with Associate degree.
• Must have a solid technical writing background with emphasis on hardware maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe PhotoShop, and Acrobat Pro.
• Must have active/current Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in a technical field.
• Maintenance Technician experience in electronic systems operation and maintenance is a plus.
• Experience with the generation of Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals.
• Experience with the generation of Illustrated Parts Breakdown manuals.

Additional qualifications include: (1) an understanding of Configuration Management processes, (2) experience with creating software user manuals and test cases, (3) experience with training development, and (4) experience with ClearQuest, Microsoft Visio, Adobe Illustrator, Snag-It, and/or Subversion (SVN) is a plus.

Salary Range: $65,600 - $98,400

Salary Range 2: $80,600 - $121,000

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
