HKS futures is seeking a Designer to join their Los Angeles team.

Responsibilities:

  • Works with senior designer(s) and project team(s) to create and develop design concepts for immersive environments, interactive exhibits, and smart building projects, ensuring they align with client objectives and user needs on time and within budget
  • Assists in the integration of spatial storytelling and interactive technologies to craft engaging and memorable user experiences
  • Works with senior designer(s) and project team(s) on conceptual designs, presentations, design development and production to deliver projects achieving design excellence on time and within budget
  • Uses design iteration to develop concepts and expand on design concepts
  • Assists in developing project scopes, timelines, and deliverables alongside senior designers and project managers
  • Participates in client meetings, presentations, and workshops, articulating design concepts effectively
  • Develops, modifies and/or reviews the model and related documents
  • Produces graphic presentations, 3D renderings and implementation documents
  • Collaborates on the development of design throughout appropriate phases of the project
  • Assists in research, development, and prototyping

  • Prepares presentations/design assets and may build models for client/project team review
  • Works closely with engineers and technologists to integrate smart systems, IoT technologies, and AV solutions into architectural designs
  • Coordinates with external vendors and specialists to ensure seamless implementation of interactive features
  • Works on multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring designs are delivered on time and within budget
  • Participates in project proposals to develop design solutions
  • Organizes and delivers complete project design presentations to client user group or public forum
  • Resolves complex design issues with innovative and practical solutions
  • Works with team to manage client expectations, team communication and consultant coordination
  • Stays updated on trends in immersive design, smart technologies, and experiential architecture
  • Experiments with emerging tools, technologies, and materials to enhance user experiences
  • Contributes to ideation sessions, helping evolve the company's creative and technical offerings

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Accredited professional degree in Architecture, Environmental Design, Interaction Design or related field required
  • 5+ years of experience in immersive environments, experience design, or similar domains preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • Architectural registration strongly preferred
  • Sustainable design accreditation preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Advanced experience and skills in Revit, Navisworks, Rhino and Grasshopper required
  • Basic experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, SketchUp and InDesign graphic software required; intermediate preferred
  • Basic skills in MS Office Suite preferred
  • Intermediate knowledge of sustainability and integrative design required
  • Basic knowledge of furniture, furnishings and equipment (FF&E) and Environmental Graphic process required
  • Intermediate experience with the entire project lifecycle, through post-occupancy required
  • Intermediate knowledge of materials, construction techniques and building codes required
  • Intermediate presentation, graphic and visualization skills to communicate design ideas required
  • Intermediate organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time required
  • Intermediate ability to build and maintain client relationships required
  • Basic ability to communicate in a clear, concise and professional manner both verbally and in writing preferred
  • Intermediate ability to problem solve and apply innovative solutions required
  • Intermediate ability to collaborate collaboration in a team environment required
  • Advanced ability to effectively meet deadlines at expected quality required
  • Travel will be required

Base Salary Range: $72 - 90k annually - for Los Angeles only
