Description
Pope Francis in his Message for the 50th World Communications Day said, "It is not technology which determines whether or not communication is authentic, but rather the human heart and our capacity to use wisely the means at our disposal." Creating an intimate encounter through the use of art and technology is the goal of the Graphic Designer.
The Graphic Designer will work closely with other members of the Communications Secretariat to create dynamic graphics and implement graphical elements in various diocesan projects when needed. The Graphic Designer must have a unique artistic and visual style to glorify God and spread the Gospel message throughout central Florida and beyond.

The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification. They are not listed in any order of importance. WORKING CONDITIONS
The working hours of this position is limited to an 8-hour day with a schedule responsive to parish hours of service. The individual must have flexibility to work weekends in order to cover parish/school/entity celebrations/events. He or she must be willing to work in conditions of stress and function well under pressure.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The ability to sit and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to reach, grasp, feel, and see up close and from afar. Must be able to use basic office computer hardware and peripherals, with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be able to communicate verbally and in written form. Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (15 pounds).

- Assist with the concept, design, production, and preparation of various evangelization materials for the Diocese of Orlando and its entities including, but not limited to, Catholic Charities of Central Florida, Catholic Cemeteries of Central Florida, Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe and St. James Cathedral.
- Assists with design and layout of diocesan website, articles, etc. using design and art experience to make pages informative, entertaining, and easy to read.
- Creation of motion graphics for promotion, Catholic news, and other Diocese of Orlando projects.
- Creation of static graphics for print and digital.
- Helps design graphic art/videos for diocesan social media (YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) for Diocese of Orlando, Catholic Charities of Central Florida, and St. James Cathedral.
- Responsible for tracking analytics and growing the audiences on all social media platforms. Makes recommendations for visual enhancement and effectiveness.
- Ensures Graphic Design & Branding excellence by maintaining integrity and leading artistic and creative direction throughout the diocese.
Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Advertising Design, Graphic Design or Communication Design preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience will be considered.
- 2-4 years of experience in Graphic Design preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
- Possesses a current, relevant portfolio.
- Excellent computer skills in relevant art and design software packages (e.g., Creative Suite (CS), Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, etc.) as well as knowledge of Microsoft applications (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Proficient in all Adobe products, including InDesign and Photoshop. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365.
- Knowledge of software for video editing, live-streaming and audio editing is helpful.
- Requires flexibility with regard to work hours and project assignments.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Must communicate accurate teachings of the Catholic faith and use appropriate resources such as catechism, Bible, USCCB and Vatican website.
- Must be an excellent communicator verbally, visually and digitally.
- Needs ability to successfully produce projects that adhere to brand standards.
- Photography experience is a plus.
- Fresh and inventive creative thinker
- Shows superb analytical skills, and a resourceful approach to problem-solving.
- Sets an ethical and pastoral tone for diocesan conduct.
- Able to quickly earn the confidence of those with whom this individual collaborates and coordinates information, including other secretariat heads, directors, members of various diocesan and parish committees, and clergy.
- Ability to flourish in a high technology environment.
- Ability to juggle multiple projects and handle tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common journals, Church documents, communication plans, articles, and periodicals.
- Ability to write well and condense large amount of information into smaller and more easily understood text.
- Reliable, insured vehicle and ability to travel within Diocese of Orlando is required.
- Ability to effectively communicate with management at all levels. Confidentiality is essential.
