Job Summary
Under the direction of the Chancellor and/or Dean, in the absence of the classroom teacher, provide instruction, encourage student progress, and manage the learning environment. Demonstrate professional practices in teaching using the course of study and lesson plan provided by the regular classroom teacher.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
The substitute is responsible for the full schedule of the regular teacher. This includes the classroom day, clubs, physical education, study halls, yard duty, and any special duties performed by the absent teacher:
- Implements lessons plans, while ensuring the integrity of the academic time and in a matter which motivates students to learn and participate;
- Collects homework and student assignments as directed for the regular classroom teacher;
- Correct papers and list grades for the regular teacher;
- Maintains and respects confidentiality of student and school personnel information;
- Maintains a discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff; ? Reports all student injuries, accidents and illnesses to the proper school administrators immediately or as soon as possible;
- Follows directives from school administrators regarding attendance, discipline, support system, rainy day schedule and any other pertinent policies for that school;
- Reports to the Main Office upon arrival at school, meets with the school Receptionist, checks mailbox of absent teacher for lesson plans and materials;
- Requests clarification of school rules and district policies, if necessary;
- Leave the regular teacher a report of work done in the plan book, especially if lesson plans have been altered;
- Returns the room keys to the Receptionist and instructional materials and equipment to the proper place;
- Perform related duties as assigned.
