Chinatown Community Land Trust (CCLT) seeks a full-time Operations and Communications Manager to support its work to stabilize the future of Boston Chinatown through community control of land and shared resources.

Mission and Description of Organization

The Chinatown Community Land Trust (CCLT) works to stabilize the future of Chinatown as a neighborhood for working class families and a regional hub for the Chinese community. We work for community control of the land, development without displacement, permanently affordable housing, and community governance of shared spaces and resources.

Chinatown CLT is a membership-based organization, founded in 2015 by homeowners, tenant leaders, former residents, small business owners, and longtime activists, with a shared commitment to stabilize Boston Chinatown's future as a neighborhood for immigrant, working class families, seniors and vibrant small businesses.

Current projects and work areas include: preservation of small properties as permanently affordable housing, open space advocacy and redesign of Reggie Wong Memorial Park, organizing for community-scaled zoning and historic preservation strategies, cultural place keeping projects to celebrate Chinatown as an anchor neighborhood for immigrant working class families, working for climate resilience and to increase use of renewable energy in Chinatown.

Job Description

The Operations and Communications Manager will work with the Executive Director and CCLT team to improve both internal systems and external communications important to growing the organization’s work and support base, and will have opportunities for learning about affordable housing preservation, open space planning, historic preservation strategies, environmental justice, and community governance. Core responsibilities will include:

-Membership Development - Organize community outreach and membership development events to involve residents in CCLT projects and decision-making. Take responsibility for database maintenance and record-keeping to support reporting to both community and funders.

-Communications - Work with the Executive Director to publish bimonthly newsletters and an annual report highlighting different aspects of CCLT’s work. Develop and implement a social media plan for Instagram and WeChat, and work with the CCLT team and with Greater Boston CLT Network on media outreach and messaging.

-Fund Development – Work with the Executive Director on donation tracking and donor cultivation, including the $2.7 M Reggie Wong Memorial Park capital campaign and the Community Investment Tax Credit program.

-Capacity Building – Chinatown CLT is working with other members of the Greater Boston CLT Network to develop plans for shared capacity, contract services, staff, or other infrastructure in order to grow the local CLT movement. The Operations and Communications Manager will participate in GBCLTN meetings to support those plans.

-Support Projects – The Operations and Communications Manager will participate in biweekly all-staff meetings and may provide support to different programs and projects as needed.

  • Can comfortably manage multiple tasks and projects independently and with attention to detail
  • Computer literate in social media, Microsoft Office suite, and standard database systems
  • Has at least 2 years of experience doing community outreach, organizing, project management, leadership development, or popular education
  • Has strong communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as interpersonal skills
  • Is bilingual and biliterate in English and Chinese. Familiarity with Boston Chinatown a plus.
  • Experienced and comfortable working with people of diverse social and economic backgrounds

We seek candidates who will embrace our mission and the relationship between community organizing and project implementation. The work schedule can be flexible but the Operations and Communications Manager must be available for occasional evening and weekend work. This position will report to the Executive Director. Chinatown CLT staff is a small 3-4 person team, which combines work from home and in the office, including in-person meetings and activities with Chinatown residents.
