WSYX/WTTE has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Investigative Reporter to join our accountability driven ABC6 News On Your Side team. We are looking for a journalist who digs deeper with a relentless pursuit for answers on a daily basis. We're interested in candidates with a proven track record of impactful reporting, deep knowledge of researching and sorting through data to find the storylines. You must have a firm grasp of multi-platform reporting, publishing the story as it is happening and engaging with our viewers. You must have the instinct to jump in on major breaking news to add context to our coverage. Our investigators are our experts on topics that impact our viewers and should be editorial leaders. We work together as a team so you should be good at collaborating with our Leadership Team, Photojournalists, and legal department. We want someone who has strong storytelling skills and knows how to create visualizations to showcase your work.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Develop/maintain sources to enterprise investigations

  • Identify and pitch original investigative angles to stories

  • Have strong writing skills to include process journalism

  • Be flexible and knowledgeable, to quickly react to breaking stories providing deeper context and information on behalf of our communities

  • Embrace multi-platform approach to storytelling

  • Maintain an active social media presence

  • Knowledge of FOIA requests

  • Embrace data driven journalism 

  • Other ABC6 On Your Side reporting duties as assigned


Requirements:



  • Must be able to develop and maintain sources

  • Dynamic live television and storytelling skills are a must

  • Strong social media skillset for both research and promoting stories as well as gathering viewer input

  • Knowledge of the FOAI (Freedom of Information Act) process, computer-assisted reporting, and data-driven reporting along with familiarity of legal issues related to investigative television news reporting are essential

  • Strong writing skills and knowledge of current events

  • Minimum of 4 years of investigative reporting experience preferred

  • History of award-winning investigative journalism preferred
