About the Role & Team
Walt Disney Imagineering is the master planning, creative development, design, engineering, production, project management, and research arm of The Walt Disney Company’s Parks and Resorts business segment. Representing more than 130 subject areas, the talented Imagineers are responsible for the creation of Disney resorts, theme parks and attractions, hotels, water parks, real estate developments, regional entertainment venues, cruise ships and new media technology projects.
The Walt Disney Imagineering Technology Studio Media & Art Pipeline team is looking for a Lead Developer to assist with programming tasks and technical responsibilities of the group. The Technology Studio is a group of technologists working within Imagineering to build and deploy software and software/hardware integration tools to help increase the capabilities of Imagineering art and design practice.
What You Will Do
Digital pipeline tools development for 3D content creation including theme-park visualizations, animated animatronic animations, ride vehicles, simulated projectors, and other dynamic show elements
Troubleshoot and support previously built software products and/or proof-of-concepts
Engage with designers and artists to better support them and capture new requirements
Required Qualifications & Skills
Minimum of 10+ years experience as Technical Director or similar working in VFX Pipeline and/or Video game pipeline
Autodesk Maya (scripting and API (C++/Python/OpenMaya API) development experience as well animation rigging experience
Programming proficiency in Python (with an emphasis on packaging/deployment/ custom user tools)
Unreal (general, asset workflow /blueprints)
Virtual Reality experience in both content development and/or systems development
Game engine development (game logic, plugin, core engine) experience
CAD software (SolidWorks, REVIT, Rhino or equivalent)
Working with Windows systems
Communication skills (written and spoken), problem-solving, adaptability and a willingness to mentor junior developers
Preferred Qualifications
Autodesk Flow (Formerly Shotgrid)
Perforce
UI/UX prototyping or programming experience and/or tools (PyQt, Qt, Wx, CSS)
Web programming (HTML5/CSS3, Javascript, jQuery, Ruby on Rails, Django)
Developing cross-platform software (Windows, Mac OS, Linux)
Strong 3D math skills and computer graphics programming experience (OpenGL/DirectX)
Ability to learn new APIs and SDKs quickly
Familiarity with USD
Familiarity with REZ
Shader programming experience (GLSL/HLSL/Cg)
Physics based simulation (Simulink, ANSYS)
Knowledge of 3D/2D content creation software (Autodesk Maya, MotionBuilder, SolidWorks, Houdini, Substance Painter, etc.)
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.

The hiring range for this position in Glendale, CA is $184,300 to $247,100 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
