To assist the Technical Director, Theatre and Facilities with all the technical aspects of a state-of-the art facility including the Wool Studio Black Box Theatre. Responsibilities will include technical work for programming hosted by the JCC, as well as the New Jewish Theatre, Youth Theatre, Theatre Unlimited, facility rentals and other departments’ special events.


The ATD will implement the lighting, sound, and video needs for events, programs, and productions at the Jewish Community Center with high standards of quality and creativity. This role offers the opportunity to put technical experience, creativity, and leadership skills to use on both theatrical productions and a variety of live events.

Requirements:
  • Oversee the setup and operation of sound, lighting and AV equipment for events including but not limited to the annual Jewish Book Festival, the New Jewish Theatre, Youth Theatre, and Theatre Unlimited programs, as well as for other special events such as fundraisers or guest speakers.
  • Collaborate to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during event setup and execution.
  • Work with both internal departments and external rental clients to plan and implement event technical needs accurately and efficiently.
  • Collaborate and communicate with the Technical Director to provide updates and address concerns.
  • Ensure appropriate lighting, sound or projection equipment and materials are available to meet project specifications within budget constraints.
  • Assist with all set construction for New Jewish Theatre, Theatre Unlimited, and Youth Theatre under the direction of the Technical Director.
  • Ensure all sets are built according to design, building, and safety guidelines.
  • Together with the Technical Director, plan and execute the load in of stage sets ensuring that the set is properly secured and in place.
  • During show strike, dismantle the sets as required keeping inventory and storing those components which can be reused.
  • Assist with maintaining, managing and repairing inventory of shop supplies, theatre equipment, lighting, sound, and other AV equipment.
  • Supervise A/V technicians as needed
  • Assure adherence to safety protocols and best practices
  • Stay current with industry trends and technological advancements in lighting, sound, and projections.
  • Propose and implement improvements to enhance event and production processes.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED is required. College degree in related field is preferred.
  • 2-5 years related event production and/or theatre experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with lighting, sound, and projection technology is required.
  • Live sound mixing experience is required.
  • General computer literacy including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Qlab, Dante, and AutoCAD knowledge preferred.
  • Intermediate scenic carpentry skills and knowledge of construction methods preferred; basic skills required.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated implementation of safe theatre and shop practices are required.
  • Knowledge of and capability to utilize power tools (saws, drills, compressor, etc.) is required.
  • Able to lift, carry, push, and pull objects not to exceed 80 pounds.
  • Ability to climb and work with the use of a ladder, extension ladder, scaffolding and or mechanical lift up to 25 ft in elevation is required.
  • Must be able to accommodate a flexible schedule in support of the above events which will include days, evenings and weekends.
