General purpose: To provide instruction for undergraduate students in MICA's new online Bachelor of Design: User Experience Design program, which is launching in Fall of 2024. Program Description: The purpose of the Bachelor's of Design in User Experience (UX)
Design degree is to equip individuals with technical art and design skills to become UX designers while also preparing them to engage with UX design as a professional practice. The BDes also provides graduates with complex knowledge around the application of universal and human-centered design principles within the context of designing digital products with the user at the forefront. This program carefully balances design theory with applied, practical experience through studio courses, portfolio building, critiques, dynamic faculty, and industry partnerships.

Summary of Essential Functions:
- Hold instructional class session once a week for 8 week terms
- Collaborate and coordinate with Program leadership and faculty
- Hold office hours once a week for the duration of the class
- Provide core instruction to satisfy primary learning objectives of course
- Provide timely feedback on and assessment of student work
- Works directly with the curriculum team
- The curriculum team establishes program and course learning objectives,
- standardizes rubrics and syllabi, and assists in structuring course materials on
- Canvas
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Prepare lesson plans for the duration of the course. This may include sourcing supplementary materials from diverse sources, ensuring course materials are relevant, up-to-date, and in alignment with program learning objectives.
- Deliver live lectures and/or facilitate synchronous class sessions for students once a week.
- Maintain consistent communication with students:
- Holding at least one hour of regular office hours every week.
- Replying to any student communication within 24 hours.
- Evaluate and provide feedback on student work. This includes providing timely written and/or recorded audio/video feedback via the LMS (Canvas) and keeping a current gradebook.
- Publish Canvas course in a timely manner, including syllabus, assignment descriptions, due dates, rubrics, and any other course materials.
- Updating the Canvas course throughout the term, including publishing class Zoom recordings, providing slide decks and other materials to students, and any revisions to assignments or due dates.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of User Experience Design subject matter. Courses that are currently being staffed:
- Design Thinking and Strategy I
- Evaluative User Research Methods
- Sustainability
- Universal Design and Accessibility
- Design Theory and Criticism
- Experience and expertise in at least one of the above areas of knowledge.
- Comfortable with using technology in an online classroom setting.
- Ability to demonstrate pedagogical knowledge of their subject area.
- Proficiency in UX design tools such as InVision, Figma, and Adobe XD
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- 5 years of related professional experience
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree in a related field
- 10 years of related professional experience

- Work environment: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
