The Opportunity

To achieve our ambitious goals, we’re looking for a Principal Product Designer to join our Core Design team. This role will lead the work of critical new product offerings, mentor and inspire the broader design team, and partner closely with cross-functional teams in Product, UX Research, Data Science, and Engineering to shape the future of AI-powered communication tools.

As Principal Product Designer in our San Francisco hub, you will partner directly with senior leadership to create the next generation of offerings from Grammarly. You will play a critical role in exploring, defining, and designing novel interfaces for interacting with AI, and your work will influence the entire core product. In addition to leading through craft, you will mentor other designers, and help build and foster a culture of creativity, product excellence, and trust.

In this role, you will

  • Own and provide creation direction for key product surfaces and act as the lead designer on high-impact projects.
  • Help define the next generation of strategy and product offerings from Grammarly, including providing input on brand and design language, in addition to core product design.
  • Collaborate closely with senior product- and design leaders to continuously evolve and materialize the long-term vision for Grammarly.
  • Mentor and help elevate the craft of designers across Core and Mobile.
  • Build close partnerships with key stakeholders across engineering, product, and design. Drive cross-functional alignment and collaboration as part of a leadership team.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in UX design, with a solid foundation in digital product design in fast-paced, iterative environments.
  • Has expertise in advanced design methods and tools.
  • Has exceptionally strong aesthetic sensibilities.
  • Has a prototyping mindset, communicates ideas through interactive mocks or rough functional prototypes, and can mentor and teach other designers prototyping tools and methodologies.
  • Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex product requirements into a compelling vision that influences senior leadership.
  • Proven experience in taking products from initial concept to launch.
  • Embodies our EAGER values—is ethical, adaptable, gritty, empathetic, and remarkable.
  • Is inspired by our MOVE principles: move fast and learn faster; obsess about creating customer value; value impact over activity; and embrace healthy disagreement rooted in trust.
