Position Overview
Summary
The Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) is seeking a seasoned Grants Writer to support our global fundraising efforts, with a focus on grant writing and communications. Our mission is to accelerate the transition to a diverse, sustainable, and profitable energy economy. To do this, IEEFA seeks to inform and influence policymakers, investors, media, and communities through rigorous, fact-based financial analysis.
The person in this role is critical to our success and a valued partner. We are looking for a teammate eager to learn how our energy finance research and communication strategies drive impact, and capture that story through exceptional writing and creativity.
This is a remote position, with occasional need to travel for in-person meetings and events.
IEEFA's $12M annual budget is funded through grants from over 30 public, private, and family foundations, including a significant portion of multi-year grants. Our funding is highly relationship-driven. While most of our funding comes from US-based funders, we also receive support from foundations in Europe, Asia, South Asia, and Australia.
Headquartered in the United States, IEEFA has a team of analysts, communications, and administrative personnel located across the globe. IEEFA produces a significant volume of original research, as well as ongoing analysis and reports. ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Researches, develops, and drafts grant proposals and concise grant reports that capture the critical details relevant to funders
- Submits proposals, reports and requested documentation through various funder online portals, troubleshooting, and communicating with funder staff as needed
- Gathers and synthesizes information on IEEFA's programmatic work and communications products to present to funders; engages with IEEFA program staff to understand organizational priorities and impact
- Creates regular, ongoing and specialized communications to donors matching their interests and specific funding to IEEFA- leveraging IEEFA data visualizations
- Collaborates with Director of Development and Grants to build effective and comprehensive funder strategies to drive success
- Conducts ongoing prospect research to identify and qualify new funding opportunities
- Works with the Director of Development and Grants to support program staff and ensure adherence to all grant requirements
- Collaborates with the CEO and the Director of Development and Grants to produce a concise and visually engaging annual report
- Maintains knowledge of requirements, practices, and procedures for soliciting, writing, receiving, reviewing, and processing proposals
- Assists the Director of Development and Grants on overall grant management policies and procedures in accordance with industry best practices; strengthens organizational efficiency by improving and tracking grant material processes: proposals, contracts, and funder requirements
- Minimum of 4 years (6 preferred) of demonstrated success in: writing effective grant proposals; writing timely and relevant progress reports and final reports; securing six-figure grant awards and higher
- Experience in maintaining a grants management system or funder database; including monitoring grant deliverables, timelines, and grant spending
- Strong writing skills in English, including reliable written grammar and persuasive writing skills
- Love of learning, and ability to learn quickly with an exceptional ability to process, understand, synthesize, and successfully assimilate information
- Excellent project management skills; ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, performance-oriented environment
- Able to think strategically and convey impact to various audiences
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
- Team-oriented; able to interact professionally with a diverse population of international colleagues and stakeholders
- Highly organized; able to check work-products for accuracy, set priorities, and meet objectives and deadlines with limited direction while working remotely

- Experience working with an international nonprofit/NGO
- Familiarity with issues in IEEFA's field of work (energy, finance, or climate issues)
- Experience addressing criteria for measuring the impact of grant-funded work; proficiency collecting, organizing and analyzing meaningful program data and evaluation metrics
- Experience with data visualization and presenting statistics in meaningful ways, such as charts and tables, to internal and external audiences
- Bachelor's degree required
Salary
$68,130-$79,485; Salary commensurate with experience.

Work Schedule
Full time, 40 hours/week. General hours are Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, however IEEFA is an international organization working with international funders, so some late evening and early morning work will be required due to time zone differences.
Travel
May include opportunities for travel.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Must be able to work for prolonged periods at a computer. Computer work can involve repetitive motion, eyestrain, back and neck strain.
