Position Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill multiple part-time, (max 20 hours per week as needed) Customer Service Consultant positions for Media Hub. Media Hub is a division of Academic Technologies under University Information & Technology at Oregon State University (OSU). This position will be primarily located in The Valley Library.

Media Hub (MH) is a student-initiated multimedia unit available for use by all currently enrolled OSU students and faculty. The primary mission of MH is to provide multimedia facilities, equipment, and technical support for students producing and presenting academic work. MH supports faculty and staff in the creation and delivery of media to enrich teaching, training, research and outreach.

This position has three different sub-categories; Customer Service Consultant, Production Specialist and Capture Specialist. The position(s) requires providing face-to-face, email, Zoom, and phone-based customer service. This position is required to lift/carry up to 25 lbs. and sit/stand for the duration of shift (3-8 hours) and wear closed toe shoes. A flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, will be necessary.

Position Duties

Customer Service Consultant

The role of this position is to:
  1. Create and accurately process client requests and work-orders,
  2. Consult with customers on basic how-to technical media questions
  3. Schedule and provide technical support for presentation classrooms, recording studios and interview rooms'
  4. Provide media equipment (audio, video, conferencing and presentation) for checkout
  5. Escort users to-from secure areas.

Position Duties:
Customer Service & Support:
  • Greet students, staff, and faculty; answer general multimedia support questions
  • Create and process media production and equipment check out / in orders
  • Answer multiple phone lines, email accounts, and monitors web collaboration support tool (Zoom)
  • Process web or email work requests into system
  • Schedule presentation, interview and studio room reservations
  • Copying, sorting, filing
  • Opening and closing office tasks.
  • Maintain and clean all spaces
  • Multimedia and Technology Support
  • Organize and maintain office files/forms
  • Assist with communications and administrative programming
  • Other duties as assigned


Equipment/Studio Maintenance & Support:
  • Scripting, cleaning, inventory QC, studio support
  • Ensure the equipment storage and shelving is clean, safe and organized
  • Prepare equipment kits for checkout, making sure all pieces are in good repair and working order
  • Clean equipment and manage data storage/privacy for laptops and media equipment
  • Inventory quality control
  • Participate in continuous personal skill development on selected media technology and productivity tools.
  • Accurately input data into studio systems and equipment database
  • Prepare, Clean, set-up and teardown presentation classroom, interview and recording studios
  • Ensure studio technology is in good working order and assist with troubleshooting, as required prepared for users
  • Other duties as assigned


Production Specialist

This position provides basic production support, poster & thesis printing, cutting, mounting, binding, laminating and scanning. The technician will:
  1. Maintain a clean production area
  2. Assist in processing orders, laminating and finishing/packaging orders and calling clients for pick-up
  3. Verify production orders complies with OSU guidelines.

Position Duties:

Customer Service:
  • Greet students, staff, and faculty; answer general multimedia support questions
  • Inform OSU public about specific SMS/FMC policies and services
  • Maintain a clean production workspace
  • Keep all equipment-loaded w/supplies
  • Keep leadership aware of supply levels
  • Maintain all cutting tools in proper areas

Multimedia Support:
  • Input data into various computer programs/files
  • File/back up all client/unit work with proper keywords, file structure organization
  • Other duties as assigned


Capture Specialist - Videographer/Photographer

This position provides will:
  1. Capture and edit assignments
  2. Think creatively and have familiarity with camera/lighting settings to document assignments
  3. Operate with a degree of independence, exercising initiative, sound judgment and discretion
  4. Provide a pleasant customer service experience for our clients.

Position Duties:
  • Capture/record assignments
  • Creates images/video that align with the OSU Brand guidelines.
  • Thinks creatively to utilize tools including camera, lighting, lens choice, angles to their full potential.
  • Executes post-production using accepted methods as per our standard practices.

Customer Service
  • Prompt courteous communication.
  • Greet students, staff, and faculty; answer general support questions.
  • Create and process media equipment check out / in orders
  • Inform public about specific SMS/FMC policies and services.
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*


*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Additional Required Qualifications

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

  • Knowledge of basic computer troubleshooting
  • Demonstrate proficiency with MS Office (Publisher, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Interest in multimedia technologies: audio/video equipment & software, photography, graphic applications, web design
  • Ability to work independently and multiply areas w/different lighting
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 25lbs & stand for duration of shift (3-6)
  • Familiar with Oregon State University and The Valley Library Services
