Lead Broadcast Engineer
Looking for an experienced Lead Broadcast Engineer to supervise our Maintenance and Construction staff engineers and to work closely with and report to the Manager of Broadcast Maintenance and Construction. This position is based out of our Chicago Networks Operation Center. This is not a desk job. The ideal candidate will be working on something different every week.
In addition to operating local and regional owned TV stations, our Chicago NOC is responsible for the transmission, uplink, and station support for our national Networks.
We are a design/build/integrate in-house shop. If you enjoy learning about new technologies and building it from the ground up, our Chicago NOC is your new sandbox.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assist the Manager of Broadcast Maintenance and Construction with the design and planning of new buildouts and old equipment removals.
- Lead and supervise others in the scheduling and installation of new equipment buildouts and integration.
- Lead in the training and development of existing Broadcast Maintenance and Construction staff members.
- The Broadcast Maintenance and Construction group is responsible for all transmission related systems including broadcast automation, playout and record servers, airchains and related equipment, terrestrial and network encoding, terrestrial and network distribution including microwaves, fiber, SRT and Zixi related systems, satellite uplinks and downlink systems, monitoring systems, and some aspects of our production systems.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Requirements:
- Where permitted by applicable law, must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine by date of hire to be considered for job.
- This is a full-time Chicago based, in-person position.
- Qualified applicants must have a minimum of 5 years experience with racking and wiring of broadcast equipment and dressing cables in a mid-size or larger broadcast TV facility, cable network facility, or a systems integrator and have a strong working knowledge of how broadcast equipment interconnects.
- Mid-level broadcast systems design experience that includes SDI and compressed IP based workflows required.
- Ability to lead a team and work independently and execute deadlines for multiple, simultaneous projects.
- Ability to make decisions quickly under pressure.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are a must.
- TV Transmitter experience not required.
- Work schedule is typically M-F, 8:30-5:30, but may include weekends, early mornings, or late evenings based on the project requirements.
